As a long time horror fan, I felt like some of you might appreciate a thread.

We should discuss women in horror - have male writers/directors inadvertantly created a genre where violence against women is accurately portrayed?(lurk moar before posting threads)

Honourable mention, The woman (2011) by Lucky McKee. - great revenge fantasy, I found the dynamic between the male lead and his son incredibly interesting. Think the mom eventually tells the father to "take your rapist son and go" or something like that.

(spoilered for blood)

Creep (2014) is also good, but the sequel less so. My favourites are psychological horror, this one greatly unsettled me.

There's a wikipedia article with some good insights re: history of horror.
