i finally got around to watching there will be blood today. I loved it. i watched prisoners last night. i did enjoy it but near the end it really fell apart and that's what ruined it for me. the suspense at the start was really good and I didn't think I would like it as much since paul didn't have a lot of screen time. the religious stuff was annoying tho. the constant crosses and bible verses seemed meaningless other than setting up that the family was this all American nuclear family who wear camo and love red meat.
i feel like the whole torturing thing would have been better if they didn't set up the dad as being the way he was, like he shoots deer and was already aggressive before his daughter got kidnapped. wouldn't it be more shocking if he was a pacifist father who was driven to violence? anyway i hated how they just faded to black when alex was found like wtf. let me see what he looks like at least or what he's like in hospital. it seems like they just didn't know what to do with alex and threw him aside when he wasn't needed. that ending was unsatisfying seriously. the whole film he's looking for his daughter and we never even get to see them reunited. why were they even kidnapping people? why did alex help them? maybe im missing something but so much was left unexplained. anyway i felt like a horrible person for finding alex cute in the interrogation. the whole time i just wanted to give him a nice bath and tend to the wound on his head.
that one scene where he's trapped in the shower and looks right into the camera through the hole was actually chilling. paul is really good at playing his roles i almost forget that he's not actually the character he's playing.

ok so im watching ruby sparks (finally after delaying it) and calvin is cute but i kinda hate him at the same time especially after he fantasised about ruby dating a 50 year old and sleeping with her high school teachers. like way to go being a typical male coomer in the most quirky way, but i guess that's the point of the film. i normally don't genuinely laugh at films but this one has some nice comedy that i like. again paul looks really good in these glasses and it's nice seeing him kiss someone, and also nice that he has a lot of screen time. calvin pls eat me like u at that guac you selfish hipster writerfag

I don't think Alex was really involved with the kidnapping, or if he was he didn't understand what he was doing. The movie did not address this but I this but I think his aunt was possibly using him as a patsy? The "creepy" guy in the RV was a useful distraction away from her and since they had no evidence on him she knew he'd also be released right away.
As per the kidnappings, the aunt (and the priest who murdered her husband) stated that they were doing it because they wanted to make people question/hate God because their son died? It was dumb.
I agree with you about the religious stuff, it might have worked out better if the father had died in the hole as an ironic sort of karmic/divine punishment for what he did to Alex>>207550The performances were fantastic but yeah, all the plot holes and just bizarre, nonsensical character motivations nearly ruined the movie for me. I will say the, Alex's line was supposed to sound "chilling" when we hear it but later on we're supposed to understand, I think, that it's proof of how innocent he really is because he was truly that retarded (which the father had been doubting).
Various movie issues:
1. Why did the priest murder the killer? He had him tied up, he could have just called the police.
2. Why did the killer confess to the priest to start with? This is the most nonsensical part to me.
3. Why did they keep Alex and that other guy alive? Alex was at least kept on a tight leash but the other guy was allowed to just run around doing creepy shit? Was he in on the crimes? Another patsy?
4. The cop did not follow any legal procedures at all and repeatedly broke into people's homes, violently interrogated people (including an actual retard who legally could not be held accountable for his actions) and even stole from them, he stole Alex's toy. No. 207628

ok i finished it. id probably give it a 5.5/10. the ending was very cheesy, i kinda wish calvin just ended up by himself like he obviously has issues idk man. anyway he was really cute in this film but he seems very toxic lol. id love to bully calvin irl because he deserves and then tell him he's cute and have sex with him. yes im sick in the head. i really liked seeing him cry at the end of the film like yes king that's what you get for being evil and making your imaginary gf suffer, i hope that the next time you hold that bear in therapy someone else has used it so it smells bad. it's worth it for seeing paul do domestic stuff and be a shy little toxic writer man. i still cant get over his nice his legs and arms look in this film, his skin looks really clean (which is saying something since in all of the dano content ive watched he has a grubby face at some point) and he actually has a nice wardrobe. I agree that the premise is very creepy, if you wouldn't have told me zoe wrote it i'd thought it would have been written by a man. it was entertaining tho and i'd probably watch it again.
