So glad I got memed into reading this manga. Shame it isn't more popular outside of Japan. I can only imagine the strategizing that went into covering all of their dicks during that onsen fight scene.
This sums up my view of the manga perfectly.
Which chapter is the onsen fight scene please?

God I love this manga, I love the hilarious bara overtone art of this serious story but absolutely ridiculous gags and being such a wild ride with the added bonus of actual Ainu cultural appreciation. Bought this shirt at Uniqlo instantly because Asirpa is based.

Asirpa is so based. I was trying to show a cute picture of her to a friend and hentai doujins of her popped up on google images. I threw my phone and gagged. I still have trauma. How dare they.

I don’t want to actively post here yet because I’ve been ‘saving’ chapters for a good binge, but I bought a gk doujin because it looked wholesome and I think the writer made a romantic subplot between asirpa and sugimoto. I can’t tell because it’s vague and in japanese, but what the fuck why. Do any other anons think Noda is going to make them a romantic coupling by the end? I theorize we’re well into the 2/3rds point, if not the 3rd quarter. I want Asirpa to succeed, but I don’t think she’ll do things the way I want her to. Kiroranke previously had the most favorable plan in my opinion, but that’s out of the window. Tsurumi’s motivations disappointed me, and
Hijikata’s plans will never come true (kek my favorite supporting character geezer.) At least, not how he envisions them. What do farmers want to happen?
I look forward to sperging with my fellow god taste Tsurumifags this weekend. When weebs make anime shrines I never imagined I’d soon be so convicted towards a fucking deranged scrote with cerebral fluid dripping down his forehead.

Wishing all 7th Division anons a very good everything life has to offer
>>145351>Asirpa and Sugi ending up as a romantic couple
Oh fuck no, I don‘t think he would do that. This would need a time skip which are usually shit and he said in an interview that he would hunt down everyone who sexualizes Asirpa so I really don‘t see him pairing them with each other. That would be awkward af and he seems like someone who wants to avoid that trope. I mean he would’ve made Asirpa older if that would be the plan.>>145351
I was disappointed about Tsurumi‘s motivation too, he is too magnificent for such a plain goal!>>145321

Girl, the 7th is crumbling. Bets on how soon Tsukishima is going to one-shot Koito
and cause catastrophic fandom meltdown? Ogata will do something to fuck it up for the ultimate groomer because he be like that.
This. I avoided it for too long since It didn’t seem too interesting at first glance, but holy shit I‘m so glad I got into it. It‘s without a doubt one of the best ongoing manga right now, and it‘s fucking weekly>>145288>the strategizing that went into covering all of their dicks during that onsen fight scene.
Noda is very dedicated towards his craft. Everytime he takes a break for his private life I‘m glad for him because I know it will benefit the quality of the story.
I‘m not sure if I want it to be super popular tho, I‘m afraid it would attract too many retards but on the other side the japanese demographic readership seems to be more on the balanced and mature side. The audience filters itself it seems.
The amount of cinematic, historical, literary, etc., references scattered all over the place are insane. Same. I don't need burnout or ill health from Noda. I'm not going to die because of a break.
True. Western fans can be so annoying. Dipping into twitter briefly is enough to almost give me an aneurysm.
Literally can't wait for the inevitable showdown between Tsukishima and Koito
but I don't think he'll kill him. Ideally, I'd like for Koito
to talk some sense into him and they both betray Tsurumi and leave him shook.

>>145416>the 7th is crumbling
‘7th division anons’ are anons who fangirl over any member, current or past and are therefore dubbed 7th division anons in relation to the faction of characters they support. Not that anons support the 7th divisions aka Tsurumi’s goal itself.
Tsurumi however would definitely let Koito die
and I think that is what will happen, leasing Tsukishima to prematurely come to his senses and stop this before Tsurumi does something beyond insane.
Either that, or Koito doesn’t die, and Tsukishima lets him go (tsukishima is stronger than him) one way or another and possibly dies. Koito becomes a new hero and works to stop Tsurumi, and Tsukishima says something like “I’m glad I’ve gotten to see your stage this far…(to tsurumi)” or “now my curtains close early…” and sees the curly haired girl in his death. Either way I don’t see Tsukishima being allowed to stay purposefully ignorant anymore. Our loyal voldemort will feel have a terrible emotional breakthrough either way…
This is the double edged sword of Tsurumi’s flower garden. You feel bliss and comradeship and belonging, but it’s all a ruse. You’re expendable and you are but a cog. You choose to be Tsurumi’s beloved dog, knowing that he will put you down not because you bite, but because it is his will. It’s so heartbreaking but my autistic ass loves it so much. A superbly written antagonist. His true motivations were one of if not the biggest let down in the entirety of this manga for me. But I appreciate how greatly it humbled him. A man that moves people as if he were god, yet his core motivation is the most human thing about him.
kek this might as well double as gk husbando thread, my feelings about Tsurumi are so intense and convoluted I’m practically in love with him. I have read hundred of manga in my lifetime at this point. It’s not humblebrag, or overpraise, Tsurumi is one of the best male manga antagonists of all time. There’s no funny business, he is wholly and completely written with an amazing sense of talent. There are many great manga antagonists from (rightfully) highly acclaimed series. But too many can they be simplified due to their interaction with the story itself. I think what sets Tsurumi apart is that in the realm of GK, he’s not merely a character. He’s more important than god to many of these men. And he’s not just an antagonist with groupies, but he provides them with motivations they can’t refuse. Motivations that are, in their own way, rightfully just. Tsurumi is evil, but he’s not. He just is. He’s indispensable.
File: 1622163681269.jpg (204.52 KB, 1920x1474, Es05yACU4AIJdrH.jpg)
I really don't think Tsukishima will make it out of tsurumi's grip bc:
1) he has been death flagged with the bare foot thing
2) the purposeful shine noda put in his eyes after he "killed" ariko
pretty much was meant to show he's made his ultimate decision and is ready to throw anything and everything away for tsurumi.
warning: below will be my long autistic theories about future developments and character relationships between koito, tsuki, and tsurumi (bc i find them fascinating.)
Koito is for sure gonna get shot by tsukishima… and I'm really not looking forward to the koitsuiki fandom melting down over it like a bunch of babies who can't read plot clues. They were already (especially the japanese side) melting down over tsukishima "dropping koito's hand" that he offered in 231 and going back to following tsurumi and i even saw a couple fan artists be like "i can't draw koitsuki anymore, I guess i was wrong the WHOLE TIME"
I bring this up bc it is a good segway into my next plot theory, (& bc I hate when people act like if a ship isn't a 100% perfect romance with a happy ending then there couldn't have been anything there at all). Tsukishima obviously has cared deeply about koito and risked the mission multiple times to save him. Additionally, I don't think anyone other than koito would have been able to talk him down from murdering tani & inkarmat
. The issue is, he's just too far gone as a result of being borderline abused by tsurumi for over a decade. As a result, as soon as he sees tsurumi again and is reassured about his goals, he goes back and sticks to his side like a magnet that doesn't know any other way to live.
He's threatened multiple times to kill koito, but has not followed through yet. Wen he does follow through, I think it's going to be his come to jesus moment. He's gonna shoot at koito, and koito will wind up with a severe injury. At this point, koito is going to be shocked and call "tsukishimaa" like he always did before, only now in a hurt & pained way. This contrast is going to be what makes tsukishima freeze up. From here, either tsukishima will get killed immediately in this moment of hesitation, or he will actually do a 180 and do one grand action against tsurumi before he then gets killed. Obviously i think the latter would be more exciting but idk if noda would be that kind to us. But ultimately, I think koito will survive his injury and will have to see tsukishima die, which will kill any ounce of loyalty he has left to tsurumi and he might switch sides to help the sugimoto and asirpa gang. At least, that's what I would say if I didn't know that the manga is going to end any minute now, bc idk that there's even enough time for a formal side switch to happen.
File: 1622166044723.png (200.45 KB, 773x427, bruh.png)
Absolutely agree. So many red flags. I think he is the most far gone. Even the conversation with Koito after he spared Tanigaki and Inkarmat
was ringing major alarm bells. The way he blasted Ariko
and now (raw spoilers) Kikuta, this time fatally for sure
were particularly brutal. Yes they were spies
and he isn't randomly sadistic but he's shown himself willing to kill even a pregnant woman
if Tsurumi says so. Koito is in huge danger if he shows further hesitancy. And tbh I feel it's a toss up whether or not shooting Koito would even pull him out of Tsurumi's grip. If anyone is in it to the end with Tsurumi- it's him.
At least Japanese fans usually don't send as many death threats when mangaka sink their ships. Western fans do it to a prosecutable degree.

I love all these theories, even if it pains me as a tsurumi simp and koito simp. I hate to think of the manga ending, and how many characters will survive at the end, but I would love to see how Tsurumi would react if he was backed into a corner especially by his men. I can’t wait to see how everything plays out

Tsurumi is great because he will do horrible things but still have me laughing and entertained. I guess villains/antagonists that make you feel pure disgust and/or rage for the entire duration of the narrative have their place but personally I'm not really a fan. Kind of boring and irritating. That flashback encounter with Wilk's crew and the reveal at the end was so good. I think Ogata will throw a wrench into the mix for Tsurumi before this is over because of their history. No matter what it will be wild. I care about so many characters so I'm worried.

Speaking of Koito simping. His interactions with Sugimoto were so good. Wish we had more of them. Like, "Oh, you embarrassed me using my beloved Lieutenant? I'm going to make you cut yourself for real." Biggest drama queen. And the juice scene had me dying. Picrel.

If tsurumi was ‘real’ is there even an anon itt who would refuse him? I can’t imagine living in a universe that had Tsurumi in it and not entering the garden to be honest. In a world like that, he would make sure you see him as a convincing oasis.
I love TsukiKoito but there is no way they will live if they continue to be under Tsurumi. They’re both aware of this but I agree with anons that Tsukishima would rather die than completely move on from all of this, from Tsurumi. I think he will come to his realization but he is still destined to die. It makes sense. Koito was able to come to his senses and find himself. Tsukishima has already thrown himself away. His dedication (and acquisition) to Tsurumi was too different from Koito’s from the beginning.
Also this is my autism but when flowers surround Tsurumi as his admirers gaze upon him, I always personally thought of it as a double metaphor for referencing Shojo rose-tinted glasses, and the garden of eve in the bible. I don’t know which bible character he would reference exclusively. He’s so divided even toward himself, that he could be adam, eve, god, and the serpent at once. Slowly self cannibalizing and possibly self aware that his garden is only a cage. Does Tsurumi think his insanity will bring his end? Or does genuinely believe it’s possible to transcend the pain that has been both his motive and his plague for years? My worst fear is that in the end Tsurumi will kill himself. Either in shock factor suicidal hanging fashion, or he will “allow” himself to die at the hands of a subordinate from 7th. I don’t like to think Sugimoto would be written to kill him, but he will probably deal the final blow. However, I believe a subordinate will be responsible for the decisive blow to the lieutenant. But it’d be incredibly thrilling to read. An appropriate climax is fundamental to every arc that includes first lieutenant.

what can be certainly said about the Poppy flowers blooming around him when he has a charming moment is that they symbolize the morphine-like effect he has on his loyal soldiers, this and the shoujo effect of course. Since there are a lot of biblical references in gk your idea sounds probable imo.
I love how passionately you sperg about him anon, vers poetic. You really fell for him and his power of love, bravo Noda!

That sums up my feeling on the situation too, although it‘s very unpleasant. It seems to me that Tsukishima is an example for the brainwashed soldier who will die for his master ie. Tsurumi‘s goal, and the little bit of humanity he has shown (that he cares for koito) is not enough to get him out of this state he’s gotten deeper and deeper into since such a long time. As much as I liked him softening up for Koito, this is nothing compared to the amount of conditioning he got before. It would be very unlikely for a person like him to suddenly change because he cares for someone he knows for such a short time.
I hope Koito learns about the dangers of army conditioning through this, he‘s still young and has more chances at positive development. I think so because Tsukishima gaining the light back into his eyes after that scene was hitting pretty hard, and Noda is usually VERY considerate in his foreshadowing and use of narrative tools, as well as the Igogusa reveal
He did mention that he wants his characters to change, but good character development does not have to be positive and Tsukishima was never foreshadowed to question his motivations, instead exactly the opposite, he was always portrayed to be too stuck up in his loyal soldier role and I don‘t think it‘s bait especially at this point in the story, as much as I don‘t like it.

The poppies are a flower I overlooked when making my comment. Brilliant catch! And his monicker is the bringer of death/grim reaper as well. He plays both roles well. A true testimony to how absolutely scrambled his mind is. Thank you for appreciating my tsurumiposting. I swear this manga is laced with opium. >>145607
Based hijikata appreciator. I agree he’s weirdly hot. his flashback before cutting down his buddy was fucking kino
and his best scene imo. I think it’s a shame how he gets pushed to the background, but from a story perspective I prefer it this way. I fucking hate his plans KEK, which regarding your comment I would also apply to him. But I wasn’t clear in my initial comment, so I’ll clarify:>I don’t think if anons were former conscripted imperial soldiers in the manga, that refusing Tsurumi’s “reparations” plan would feel ideal.
That is what I meant by ‘real’. Tsurumi as we know him is fictional, so to my understanding, being placed adjacent to him in a reasonable setting (i.e. soldier, or at very least citizen who views your country as a distraught victim
(there are only victims
in war, but for the sake of illustrating this is the descriptor I chose) it would be easy to feel moved by his plan back then.) Real life inspirations for his character disregarded.
However, this is because of the specific scenario. Of course, in a completely non-fiction setting, my personal empathy lies with the Ainu. I think to myself and likely other anons, the misfortune of being on the receiving end of the real-life ramifications of Tsurumi’s ideas and actions are indubitably undesirable. I also do not expect ggk anons to blindly follow a [brain damaged] man [they know is a war criminal] in real life. Tsurumi and the rest are not good people, only good characters. Despite seeming to be engulfed in gk I remain this distinction. >>145616
Fucking based. His wish at the end was simple and humiliating. Not in a worthy of mockery sense, but that it was so modest. It wasn’t necessarily humble, but it was far from grandiose compared to the wishes we know. I appreciate that sense of simplicity I’d believe Noda brought with purpose. I think it serves as one of the many examples that despite how outlandish and lavish the characterization and events get, these are still nothing more than mere men. Possibly looking too into it, but I enjoy this interpretation nonetheless.
ew I don‘t like that drawing style, it has Yaoi hands and the faces look weird. And why would Ogata shittalk Asirpa? The only in character thing about this is that Sugi is angry at him.>>145691
That‘s interesting that he recognizes it as accurate. I think it is a good lecture for soldiers like your bro because it shows everything in a straightforward, non-romanticizing light. Sounds like a self aware person.

was right that there’s no way Noda would pair Asirpa and Sugimoto romantically. >>145689
Feeling like shit having to realize that the entire manga we have been watching and waiting for Tsukishima to die.
Fuck this gay earth.
Have any anons bought physical copies? I’m waiting for a box set to be released. I don’t think I’d reread it often, but regardless of the possible endings I will definitely revisit my favorite scenes.
I like the theory that Ogata is tsundere for Sugi." I didn't save you because I like you. I didn't save you because I like you either." Even funnier after the imposter brother chapter. My gay friend saw the clip of Sugi ripping out Ogata's eye, sucking out his blood, and bandaging his head
and was like this feels very homo. I was just distracted by Ogata's voice as usual.
Fuck this gay earth is right. It all feels very doomer right from the beginning.

Unironically this trio has become a favorite of mine. I know some people are unsure/don't like Wilk, but idk what it is about him- I think his characterization is catching onto me. I've always loved Kiro, and Sofia is one of my favorites now too. Just can't get enough of these three, I find them all so cute and tragic

His younger self is godly but he's still got it. He's older than my grandfather but I still would. Am I a freak? Yeah, absolutely. So
many kino moments. That scene you mentioned was brilliant. I loved him allowing his blood to pool in his hand so he could blind Inudou with it and take him out. Yeah his plans aren't great but then again who has a good one with the gold?
I get you. I can understand in the context of the story why characters would be dedicated to bad but charismatic people. They have a multitude of reasons.

I love this trio too!>I know some people are unsure/don't like Wilk
He disappointed me. I think he was poorly explained (compared to other characters) because in my opinion his actions only begin to make more sense from a parental perspective, but on his part they were still poorly executed. I think Wilk was arguably incredibly smart, but had moments of very good and very bad luck. I love Sofia and I was confused about Kiroranke, but by the end his reasons were understandable to me and I supported him. His methods may have been dubious at best, but my god was his pain easy to resonate with as a reader. I hated Wilk for a good while after completing their backstory. Stories of strong platonic bonds and betrayal tug at my heartstrings KEK>>145710
I agree with you and you are very based. That scene you described was fucking fantastic ugh. I think why Hijikata’s plan is more dislikable for me is because compared to the others’ it feels a bit “meager”. I mean that creating a new nation and reinstating a feudalist state is no small feat, but it’s so intangible and far fetched that I can’t help but feel disappointed. I think I wanted more from him than “old man wants to go back to the good old days” but even when I simplify his wishes that way, I think it’s because Noda didn’t do as much for Hijikata’s wish as he did for the others. I wish there was more with respect to how long we’ve known Hijikata, and how much we have gotten to know him. If Noda had panned more to Hijikata’s story, his connections, or gave us evidence that his plan is more than a pipe dream, I’d definitely feel differently. Really all I’d need is proof that with or without the gold, Hijikata has the manpower to reinstate his Shinsengumi pals. Even if they were all arrested, and that’s why we couldn’t see most of them, at least Noda could show there are more than a few free men whom are prepared to drop anything and return to the days of samurai. But Noda doesn’t even prepare us with more than 1 side quest to prove that there is any widespread sentiment in favor of Hijikata’s plan. Or at least enough current citizens to build a small nation. Relying on all
the Ainu you stole from to be eager to build your nation’s infrastructure along with criminals is too much. It seems that Hijikata is at this moment only making drastically low probability bet.
That being said, I also don’t like his plan because I feel like it’s a ruse regarding the Ainu people. They are being occupied by Japanese, only to once again be occupied by Japanese? But you’re right the vast majority plans suck ass. I prefer the ones that don’t pretend the Ainu are a priority to them, so I did like Wilk and Kiroranke’s initial plan a lot. It was the ending I was most rooting for. I’m deathly curious what Asirpa will actually do in the future!

The viz translations sound so bizarre. The fan translations are superior, I wonder why the viz editors would put out something that could easily destabilize the painstakingly built characterization? Ogata being the most prominent example of this.
That being said, I think Ogata gets shipped with everyone because every ship involving him is built off of his identity being the core part of the dynamic. Every ship is about how Ogata causes others to react. He is the star…He is the entertainment…the main character… Ogata Effect?
KEK shitposting side I think it’s his unpredictability that attracts shippers. It’s probably just easy to build off of him since the possibilities seem endless. He has a personality but I’d guess in terms of shipping and fantasized scenarios he’s kind of a blank slate because his actual character is (outside of violence) can be so quiescent and unreactive. You can make him say nothing and still tell many kinds of stories. I don’t have much interest in shipping him though, so I could easily be completely wrong about what makes writing about his part of a dynamic fun.

I think it’s fascinating how so many different people can find something to relate to in a single creation. And not from pure interpretation, but genuine reflections of real life attitudes and scenarios. Even in all of its crazy, gk is quite well written.

Been thinking a lot about this lately, and we all agree Sugimoto will have to die at the end of Golden Kamuy right? Noda has gone to great lengths to portray the inevitability of change on the way to modernization, like the slow disappearance of the Ainu and their ways and ongoing rapid industrialization. I feel like this even shows in the way the story has played out so far, we've left behind early gk staples like bears and Retar, aka naturebound motifs entirely. Golden Kamuy takes place on the cusp of great geopolitical changes, only 7 years before the outbreak of WWI, a time of great disillusionment. “Sugimoto the Immortal“ is a folk tale hero, an icon that belongs in premodern times and as such cannot survive in our brave new world. Golden Kamuy in this aspect reminds me a lot of RDR2 which had a similiar theme of the End of an Era, and the death of those who belong to it.
This “death“ could be literal or philosophical, but one way or another (be it through dying or embracing a new persona), i think “Sugimoto the Immortal“ has to die.
This might've made no sense sorry, I'm tired as hell.
Remember when Noda said this about a BL he read:
"Seeing Sensei and Yuki who mutually seek excuses to be together… Damn it, I got a boner."¨

Why are we on this earth? Just to suffer? Probably. I'm in denial.
I was procrastinating and sperged together some relatively objective theories about why Ogata sniped Sugi at Abashiri
involving this >>145700
Theory a bit in regard to the latest chapters. Might eventually post it in case anyone else is interested in stuff like that and it‘s not only stating the obvious. That is if Noda didn‘t bait us all along and I scrap it all, but who knows how long it takes for more solutions from him.>>145827> there is always the one guy who makes it weird by panicking and flipping out about how he can feel dicks touching him, and it's like "yeah dude, everyone can, get over it."
I live for these kind of stories. That’s exactly what’s going on in the /a/ threads everytime lmao
ffs, I don‘t want to know what state this world would be in if every dumbfuck in a high position would have his orders executed without smarter people sidestepping him because they realized it was a shit idea.
File: 1622313627395.jpg (251.18 KB, 500x677, sobasugi.jpg)
I live for these theories. Very into the Ogata and Sugi dynamic. I was stoked when Noda brought Sugi explicitly into the Yuusaku drama.
Lol same. Not2Blog. But I love that he watches and reads GK because it prompts more stories. All Quiet On the Western Front is not outdated, they would literally die if they listened to everything a higher up said. Careful insubordination is key. He died at the circus troupe/seventh division joke from Koito. He has me rolling but also concerned for him with his stories. They love trolling the oversensitive "no homo guys". Like "what's wrong with his dick? He has a great dick and it's very warm." Some Belarussian guy transferred to their unit and promptly announced that he was allergic to black caviar. And their commander got really mad because when would they ever eat that? Same guy apparently wakes his comrades up by kicking them in the face or decking them out of nowhere. Everybody is scared of him. Another guy gets triggered
because he has this incredibly badass scar that everyone asks about but he got it because one of his buddies would never take care of his gun and it misfired and blasted him and he got severely injured and he has to tell that lame friendly fire story lmao.
love those storys, thanks for telling them they’re hilarious!
Oh my, alright. massive sperg full of spoilers incoming, no tl;dr, sorry:So why tf exactly did Ogata snipe Sugimoto back then in Abashiri?I don‘t think it‘s because of muh wildcard antagonist doing it for the lols (literally where tf are his lols), so here are some theories. What we knew back then already:
-Ogata always tries to avoid collateral damage if possible and he does not under any circumstances wants Tsurumi to get the gold.
-Sugimoto dislikes him for some reason and there’s nothing Ogata can do about it.
-He saw Wilk telling Sugi something which could have been the code or a hint to the gold, all of which eventually gave him the following possible reasons to commit the capital sin of trying to kill the MC:
-He was afraid that Sugimoto would cooperate with Tsurumi which he later did (based Asirpa for aborting this asap)
-Given how impulsive Sugi is he might view him knowing the code to the gold as a huge risk for even more disaster bound to happen
-because he just doesn’t like him, which sounds dumb even at this point of the story tbh.
This is what we the readers knew/suspected until then, if I didn’t forget anything or have gone full retard. so now about the other theories, in regard to the knowledge we gained from the newest chapters and Noda hints: With recent confirmations and in regard to the timeline together with Noda‘s hints, it’s highly probable that he got blackmailed by central so he has to work for them. He was officially tasked with keeping Tsurumi in check and trying to stop him from getting the gold, with the possible additional order to hinder any efforts for others to get the gold since central possibly doesn’t need it and it‘s only a risk to them.
The imposter brother chapter gave us the information that seeing Sugimoto for the first time brought him a moment of relief in his coping mechanisms, and given his fucked situation it was probably one of his happiest moments so far for a brief second. So everytime he sees Sugimoto he gets reminded of that one moment where he got surprised that he CAN have nice things after all! (coping affirmation in this case) only to get harshly thrown back into reality where fuck no, he actually can’t. We know he has an issue with this already (starting with his mother) and that this must have been a rare and brief glimpse of relief for him. The fuckery with his bro came after this. Poor Yuusaku, how could he know. Anyway, It‘s obvious now that he doesn’t hate Sugimoto as a person, but Sugi always acts like a dick towards him and every time he sees him he reminds him of how he can’t have nice things. Ogata acts smug to cope with all the shit he‘s thrown into basically since he was born. He’s obviously torn between carrying on and just ending it all at times when everything‘s getting too much for him once in a while, which would be no surprise given his situation which seems to be increasingly fucked the more we learn about it.(Gives some more weight to Nodas mention of him feeling liberated after deserting, in answer to why he grew out his hair imo.) Anyway If one thing can be said is that he did not look happy, relieved or even remotely smug after shooting Sugimoto.soo now for why he possibly did it regarding the new revelations:
-(because central blackmails him) and he felt like he had no choice even if he secretly likes Sugimoto, since the happiness he felt through seeing him for the first time is still wired into his brain, but he knows it won‘t last and sugimoto will never be his bro and will never like him, either way he could never talk to him or anyone else about it (not even kikuta, rip) and is forever stuck in this shitshow alone. Every time he sees Sugimoto it causes him ambivalent pain because he didn’t come to terms with his coping mechanisms yet (he was shown to search for answers in the past but he didn‘t get any, or really bad ones like from Usami or his asshole father). So in his tortured mind he only had to pull the trigger to do the job, with bonus getting rid of the constant reminder that he can‘t have any nice things ever and things don‘t work out for him because it‘s him. The only person(sugi) we know of so far which ever made him feel really happy for a brief second hates him anyway, making the option to shoot Sugimoto just more convenient in his situation, his ptsd and army conditioning doing the rest and bam.
Tsundere anons probably like this interpretation the most.
other Theory would be because he got triggered and took the opportunity to ‚try to end‘ this fuckery, trying to carry on without this ‚obstacle‘, hindering his way, while not giving any personal fucks about Sugi which I kinda doubt after the newest revelations and the fact that he does feel empathy, even if it only got him a bloody nose so far(see barchonok).
Meanwhile, clueless Sugimoto acts like he‘s the worst untrustworthy person ever and barely tolerates him, thinking he‘s a stupid jerk only in it for the gold/the lols/basically any reason wich confirms his opinion that Ogata is a son of a bitch who can‘t be trusted. It seems that he does not remember him from back then yet or else he would maybe know that there is some more to it, even if he‘s gone from „I didn‘t save you because I like you“ to „kill him immediately I hate him so fucking much“ to „I have questions“ now.
who fucking knows. But it’s probably not because he’s doing it for the lols only, though I guess we can all agree that almost everything which happened in the story so far has not been of much benefit to anyones mental health in gk. But why tf would Noda give us all those little hints and details about him and even make Sugi play an important role in the yuusaku drama. Solely to build up a Joke or bait to distract from something else?

Sugimoto saved him! He even cared for him personally and threatened the doctor to save his life
He didn’t expect it but he finally got something nice
The feels regaining him the will to carry on

Reviving this thread so it won't get locked and I can post when I finish the series lol
Did I search it badly or isn't there any Sugimoto figures?? There's an Asirpa nendo and there seems to be an Ogata nendo on the making, but no MC? If I'm wrong, please someone enlighten me, I wanna buy it when I go back to Japan

I could only find fan made stuff. There was this one particular twitter user called Roku whonid especially talented, picrel. She made a lot of Sugimoto figures for herself.

Just finished the 300th chapter. I don't know how to cope until Noda releases the next one. Maybe I'll just reread the whole thing in japanese, this time. I'd be basically studying, right?
It's hard when Noda takes a break but I'd rather that than have him get burn out or have the quality of the manga suffer cough jujutsu kaisen cough
Rereading it was worth it, there was so much that I didn't remember from the beginning. So much happens in 300 chapters it's hard to keep it all straight. I'm trying to resist the urge to read it a third time now.
File: 1641257708529.jpg (143.13 KB, 735x735, 5f7cb6c6b5c45080cca04959bda2d5…)
I actually binged the series in a little more than a week so I'd say a lot of things were/are still pretty fresh on my mind. Still, I am definitely rereading it in japanese when I get my hands back on my PC. The only problem is that since it's a seinen series, it doesn't have any furigana and I forgot a lot of kanji. I really need to up my kanji game, I guess my excuse to myself that I would be studying isn't so far fetched after all.
I actually really want to buy the tankoubon, but it's not possible right now. But I think they're totally worth it, I knew from the first chapter it would become my favorite manga, it ticks so many of my favorite boxes!
File: 1641585994408.jpg (580.34 KB, 1536x2048, 71727.JPG)
They are definitely worth it, theres so much added content and changes!
I have read everything twice now over the last few years and plan to do it another time when it’s finished, I always find something new. The details and number of layers this story has is insane.
picrel is one of the Uniforms from that exact time period, I thought it was interesting to see an original one.

It is really cool! I really, really the the historical aspects of the manga and how much research it was put into it. The Edo Museum has always been on top of my to do list - Noda also used it for reference, iirc.
I already had a bit of interest in Ainu culture beforehand cause I studied a bit of their tattooing traditions for my graduation thesis, but this manga piqued my interest in their culture even more. I hope that when I go back to Japan I can try some Ainu cuisine in Hokkaido! What foods would you like to try? I actually really love nabe, so I'd try anything hot pot. And Citatap, obviously. But preferably no eyes or brains, kek
My brother actually stayed in Hokkaido for a whole ass year but unfortunately he never went looking for something like that. He's kinda of a picky eater anyway so I don't think it would even work for him.

The latest chapter was incredible! It sort of felt like I was watching a movie. I feel like we're hitting the climax of the story now that everyone's stuck on a runaway train. What predictions do you guys have for the next, maybe final, arc?

Answer to the anon from the other thread:
>do you think he was actually getting flustered or do you think it was just the cold?
When I read the whole story for the first time I thought it was because of the cold too. But the second time when I payed more attention to all the details it looked to me like he blushed because of something else. Idk, just seemed to me like he got embarrassed or upset or something. No one else had this amount of blush on their faces on the ice, only when they had an emotionally intense moment. Then there was this little shaky speech bubble where he says that he was never able to become friends with Sugimoto. And the fact that he imagines holding hands with him while all of this drew my attention too. At some point it looks like he’s almost crying and fucks up so bad that it made me wonder what let him get so carried away and if he even cared about lying to asirpa anymore in this moment. So yes I think either he’s a grandmaster actor who still fails at lying somehow which doesn’t really make sense or something else was going on there other than the cold which is way more likely. Can’t nail exactly what but it leaves room for imagination I guess.
File: 1641647504237.jpg (Spoiler Image, 709.33 KB, 4032x3024, IMG_7003.JPG)
Oh god yes the last chapters were so hype inducing, can’t wait for the 20th hnnng. my prediction: There will be a trainwreck. And I want Koito to do something other than cry for tsukishima like he always does, grow the fuck up boy! Ushiyama is an absolute legend I love that guy, hope he survives because I’m worried for Asirpa! I know Tsukishima is strong but he’s so small he better get his slingshot ready. Definitely more Hijikata action he’s living his best life right now next to Sugimoto.
I get really bad whiplash from being hyped for further escalation and being worried about all the characters.
picrel is just something I found funny, the caption and the pictures they choosed lol. My japanese is too bad to read everything but it looks like it’s from YJ?

, and join us! You are in for a treat, I promise.>>177973
Thanks for the thorough answer, anon! I also noticed that there was a part where he looked like he was tearing up, but both for that and the squiggly speech bubble, I thought it was just him putting on the extra act. I also agree with you that it's probably left to interpretation, and that it can also possibly be Ogata both putting on an act and
getting emotional. Not mutually exclusive things at all>>177941
I was gonna post it yesterday, but my internet connection was not cooperating! Any ideas to why Ogata killed the conductors and let the train run amok??Is he really doing it for the lulz and now because he wants to kill everyone once and for all and just end this bullshit that cost him an eye among other things? There's no way this is a Central thing kek>>177975
Lmao the fact that they are using the sucking scene for Ogata the disrespect kek
and even wrote>Super spicy!
>I get really bad whiplash from being hyped for further escalation and being worried about all the characters.
Yes! Also I don't think Tanigaki died, but I am hoping he didn't. Same for Vasily! I am hoping he'll appear soon enough in a dire situation. I really hope he doesn't snipe Ogata and that's the end of it, but it would be a book end way of finishing Ogata's deal with Yuusaku, maybe.
File: 1641671027939.jpg (69.59 KB, 1200x718, IMG_6951.JPG)
My first idea was because this is a perfect opportunity to have the train work for him and get his job done without having to fight someone but yeah might also be because he’s insane and wants to put an end to everything. Wouldn’t be the first time he tried to get himself killed while accomplishing something.Vasily doesn’t have anything to do with the yuusaku conflict or ogata in general other than stalking him so I hope Noda doesn’t do it like that.
I like him, but I kinda hope he’s dead because I don’t see what he could do at this point in the story anymore other than a ‘surprise’ moment which won’t really be a surprise because everyone expects it, so if he’s still alive Noda better be creative about it.
No way Tanigaki
is dead tho, he wouldn’t do this to him.. or would he? >>177946
Read it, it’s really good and nearing its end. I avoided it for too long thinking it wouldn’t interest me.
File: 1641674344751.jpg (156.01 KB, 736x1026, 0b6e4c81eec5c851892ceb057ca5f3…)
I don't think Tanigaki is dead either considering they didn't show his body. I think it's highly unlikely that Noda would just dispose of him like that without any confirmation, at least without having Inkarmat find the body, or someone else, even.
Since the action is too intense right now, I think it's something that will be shown later. But who knows… That's also the same reason why I think Vasily is alive as well, a few bloody droplets is too subtle of a send-off and I really think it was done to keep us speculating lol You're right about him having nothing to do with Ogata's baggage though, but I think it could be done solely for the irony of Ogata being sniped on the back of his head like he did with Yuusaku, and maybe Ogata feeling what Yuusaku did during his last moments would finally free him of the guilt in his mind.
I totally agree though that it wouldn't be the best way to deal with that subplot.
Just curious, does anyone here own a physical copy of the fanbook?

>>178042>I really think it was done to keep us speculating
This, even more so in combination with Tanigaki’s
whereabouts. Noda loves chekovs gun and red herrings, could be one of them is dead for real we’ll see.
I really hope Noda surprises us with whatever he plans to do. So far he has been doing a really good job with that. I was honestly surprised that they actually found the gold
and the title drop was glorious! holy shit Tsurumi in the latest chapters, totally unhinged. wearing wilk’s face was too much for him

Yes, I was also surprised that they actually found the gold! I thought the gold was going to be the friends they made along the way kek or the land deed, as it was thought at first. I thought maybe the gold could have been dumped on whatever river or sea, since it is/was basically a Wen Kamuy. Sugimoto looked so cute when they found the gold hnng he's my #1 husbando
Tsurumi putting on Wilk's face
was the only scene in the whole manga that actually made my stomach churn. All of the violence in the manga feels pretty "earned", and that was, for me, the most gratuitous thing he done, a complete mockery to Asirpa's and Sofia's feelings, mainly Asirpa, I feel.
It really did a great job showing how unhinged he truly became.>>178337
Not afaik. I'm thinking about getting it for my birthday, maybe (February) so I can post and translate stuff here if anyone is interested in case I actually do it!

This is somehow so fucking funny. Tsurumi, the master manipulator who was always very successful at this tried to groom him for so long and I bet he was having his doubts at times if that weird but talented boy was the best choice but he put so much work in him, even teaching him russian and everything, letting him do his most important dirty work
then when he realized that his efforts were useless and this fucker is just in it for his own autistic reasons or maybe he suspected that he works for someone else
he‘d immediately gone all „blow his brains out“ on him because he knows that he fucked up with that one and better have this guy dead asap. Idk Tsurumi putting on an act with „hmmm you will be a great war hero fondling him
I‘m so proud of you my precious soldier“ while he just sits there in disgust, not giving a shit I’m convinced he only wanted to be the one to kill hanazawa so he can at least talk to him for one time in his life because otherwise he would never get this chance
is somehow so funny. It’s clear that these two hate each other and probably did since the beginning lol. Anyway I really want to know how they met, there must have been something shady going on with Ogata joining the army so young and immediately getting involved with him, suspicious af.
Noda pls let us know before you finish this.

Tsurumi does include Ogata though when saying that you have to make soldiers fight for love for him kek
. What do you think that means?
That part is amazing indeed. Ogata's face >>178925
through the whole thing was gold, when Tsurumi says that's not Yuusaku and he instantly frowns lmao>>178942
I also liked Sugimoto's a lot, actually the whole cast was pretty good - most, if not all characters, sounded exactly like I imagined when I was reading it. Ogata and Sugimoto are my favorites, but I guess that's just my bias towards them as well.
If I was a Dubai Oil Heiress, I'd pay the entire cast to read the whole manga series up until this point so you can accompany their voice acting while reading, including SFX, narration and a voice telling you to pause and get the next manga for the session.
what is ogata doing to tanigaki in the art you posted… hot
and ok yeah the other va's did well ogata's is just so so sexy. but i also might be biased kek.

Which is funny cause at least Tanigaki's favorite food is a type of mochi (if I am not mistaken), but Ogata's is a type of nabe? Almost all hotpots that I know of have shiitake. Or at least a type of mushroom.
I now feel the urge to draw Ogata nitpickingly removing all of his shiitake from the ankou nabe.
oh i didn't realize they're mushrooms thanks for the explanation>>178974
please do anon that sounds adorable!
>>178953>Tsurumi does include Ogata though when saying that you have to make soldiers fight for love
True, good that you brought that up I almost forgot about this. I love Tsurumi claiming to use the “power of friendship” trope for his cause lol. Now that I think about it he included Tsukishima in this too, and imo Tsukishima isn’t exactly following him because of his love for him either. Maybe this was to show off the men he more or less successfully cultivated into working for his cause. I will get a bit spergy about it and assume that it might have been the case that maybe at one point ogata may have sort of admired him but that’s speculative, I guess when talking about him and “love”, from all that is known about him so far only a lack of it comes to mind. It would be related to Tsurumi’s declaration there but more in how ogata with his daddy issues followed him because of a lack of love, so exactly the opposite but still related as much.
On my, I love how this story has so many things to speculate about.

Do you guys also think that Golden Kamuy has gone to shit? It used to be a very enjoyable and nice manga but I feel like since they introduced the implications that Sugimoto and Asirpa might have a romantic relationship in the future *with her blushing and trying to get his attention when he started talking about the blind chick back in his village that he let himself get cucked out of starting a family with, and Inkarmat saying that she also had a crush on Asirpas Father - implying that it is a parallel to her and Sugimoto), it has been nothing but going downhill. Then of course Sugimoto got brain damage and the entire manga ended up becoming nothing but him going on a journey to woo his underage waifu who cannot help but get kidnapped for the nth time while he turns into an unstoppable machine retard that yells her name all the time. It is such a shame, I used to enjoy this manga a lot but then ever since they did that (plus on top of that introduced the endless other characters and ugly old men) it seriously went to shit.
Also, I think Ogata is one of the most overhyped characters in this fandom ever. He looks like he stinks and his daddy issues are completely stupid. He acts like the entire world owes him something just because his dad abandoned him and raised another son. I get that it is supposed to be traumatic or whatever, but a lot of characters from this universe also went through some heavy shit so for Ogata to act like he is the most traumatized and misunderstood character of the entire world is very annoying. He reminds me of that one video on Reddit of a man giving a homeless person a jacket and the homeless person ends up robbing him instead.

I respectfully disagree with you, I can see your points and why you started to dislike it, but I can't see it that way. Huge spoilers ahead for the nonnie
who hasn't read the whole thing yet!
>they introduced the implications that Sugimoto and Asirpa might have a romantic relationship in the future *with her blushing and trying to get his attention when he started talking about the blind chick
This is maybe my own interpretation, but I don't think Noda is writing Sugimoto reciprocating to Asirpa's feelings at all. Again, this is very subjective, but I think that her crush is Sugimoto is very relatable in a way that when I was around her age I also crushed on older man that also, thankfully, never reciprocated at all. None of their scenes together, at least for me, feels romantic from Sugimoto's end, and Asirpa is basically just portrayed as a kid with a crush - like the scene you mentioned, the crane dance, she's obviously reacting like a kid that doesn't know how to deal with her emotions aside from abruptly changing the subject. For all of the scenes they had been close together, especially physically, Sugimoto has not shown any interest - and one of my favorite scenes, the one they are inside of the deer to stay warm, could've been distorted into a romantic scene which I think it can kinda be a moment of intimacy from Asirpa's perspective
, but even then, Sugimoto is thinking about his life from before and about the woman he actually loved, that is Ume. Even the relation with Inkarmat's kinda show me that Noda has a realistic approach to this, and she saying "well, he only thought me as a kid", yeah no shit. You were a kid, and these relationships shouldn't cross that line. I could see that same thing mirroring for Asirpa, the frustration of crushing on a guy that you can't have and moving on from that. As some other anon mentioned above, it's maybe possible even that Noda kills off Sugimoto, and then that crushing reality of not being possible to be with someone who you love comes even harder.
Again, I know that's possibly my own interpretation and there's also the possibility of they ending up together by a Timeskip or something of the sort. I legit don't think Noda would go the pedo route. I know it's Japan, but I want to believe in that based on how he has portrayed these characters, Asirpa never once had a single "loli waifu fanservice" (barf). Hell, even female fansirve is pretty scarce in the manga, and one of the reasons that made me appreciate it more.
I like the cozy moments of the first half of the manga, and I think the "Sugimoto got brain damage" thing could be… dangerous for his character in the future, because the Stenka part where he just goes feral I thought was a bit weird, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it ruined his character, especially since it hasn't happened again and to me the characterization stayed pretty solid.
>Also, I think Ogata is one of the most overhyped characters in this fandom ever. He looks like he stinks and his daddy issues are completely stupid.
I personally like Ogata, but the overhyped thing is fair, most people just like the chaotic + hot shtick me included >I get that it is supposed to be traumatic or whatever, but a lot of characters from this universe also went through some heavy shit so for Ogata to act like he is the most traumatized and misunderstood character of the entire world is very annoying
Now here I disagree, I really don't see him acting that way. At least in my interpretation, he's apathetic to most shit and focused on his own goals, making him slightly stoic in a lot of situations (but I wouldn't say he's a stoic character
, he actually reacts pretty intensely and emotionally to a lot of shit) due to his daddy/abandonment issues, but the thing with Ogata is that he doesn't see himself as someone with emotional or even societal issues or as if anyone owes him shit; he thinks he's completely normal and functioning, highlighted by how he asks Usami if what he's feeling is indeed normal since Yuusaku confronted him saying it was not. The thing is that Usami is an absolute psychopath (the "dog" soldier) and so he agrees with Ogata lack of empathy and remorse, which in Ogata's mind confirms that being a big bastard is not due to being a literal bastard, is just how humans are and the "good ones" are actually bad batches that could never properly function in society. He also keeps drawing comparisons to himself and everyone around him, in his mind, trying to come up with a conclusion of what is actually a normal human being and if that's an enviromental thing or a intrinsecal thing (and that's why he gets so overjoyed when he thinks crazy naked Sugimoto is actually Yuusaku, he sees himself as the normal one even though he was raised by a "crazy" mother and no father). I also think that the war has only made all of these views and mental illness of his even worse, because he was literally put into a situation where his thoughts of being a shit person were validated. He was actually starting to get a bit of character arc in his travels with Sugimoto and Asirpa, I think, but it went to shit with the whole "Asirpa remembered it, arrow to his eye" ordeal. That's also why I think it's interesting that he shot the conductors, I wanna know now what the fuck are his goals.
Sorry, this ended up huge.
It's extremely unlikely that sugimoto and asirpa will become a thing, for reasons such as:>in the inkarmat/wilk parallel you talked about, inkarmat had to learn to move on when her crush was not reciprocated. her and wilk didn't get together. If we take this as a direct parallel, then Asirpa will have to learn the same thing.>it's actually very normal to have unfulfillable crushes as a 13 y/o girl. How many of us have had crushes on the nice young history teacher at school or an older brother's friend? >sugimoto already has a girl at home whom his entire involvement in the story revolves around>sugimoto has shown exactly zero interest in Asirpa ever, as it should be because she's a child.>noda himself has never sexualized her in any way, which is almost unheard of in manga and gives me more faith in his decision making
As for ogata, I think one of the funniest things about him is that the fandom and the author have wildly different interpretations of him. The fandom overhypes him for being a sexy moody catboy sniper and tries to claw out deep personality where there is very little because they're horny for him. Noda himself has said "idk why ogata is so popular" and continues to portray him as nothing but a shithead instigator with delusions of grandeur who hates everybody and gets his ass kicked for it, which I think is actually hilarious.
File: 1642558347146.jpg (58.4 KB, 564x796, 61cf34b081bc71cd942b0cffc19431…)
I'm the comment above yours and the fact that Ogata gets his ass kicked is also equal parts hilarious and equal parts hot for me kek I hope Noda keeps putting blood on Ogata's face, I love seeing him getting his ass handled to him

Nah, I think it’s still good. Almost every single introduced character or element is relevant to the story and overall it’s realistic and good how morally grey everything is written. I see where you’re coming from regarding the relationship between Sugimoto and Asirpa tho, as the shitty hero x girl trope is sadly so popular and widespread in media that we get kind of conditioned to expect stuff like that to be intended by the authors, even if that may not be the case. I’ve learnt to have such concerns for many series as well and this one wasn’t an exception. You might be interested in the interview the author recently gave regarding their relationship, which was very relieving to read because imo he made it pretty clear that this is not
his intention behind writing them this way.
pic loosely related, whoever made it I love this
Ogata is popular because he’s a cat and a well written character who can still be interpreted in different ways, but is also practically insane. I totally get how you come to hate him but I just can’t stop to love how delusional he is with his bullshit. To that other anon >>180049
I just can’t get over how in a rare moment of self reflection he asked Usami
for advice and gladly took it, this cracked me up, one of my fave pages this was so hysterical with that poor war prisoner in the background lmao
In general gk offers a rich display of mental illness and different ways of dealing with things as well as relationships and other dynamics which makes it and it’s cast very interesting imo. I think it is a story with many layers and actually an example of a large cast done pretty well. Love all the nature, cooking and History lore too so far I‘ve been only enjoying it, but to each their own I guess

It’s such a running gag at this point, I love it too. I mean he sure is a tragic character but also hilarious at the same time. To be honest his new glass eye
is so fucking funny, pic related I really dig Nodas humor with this.
raw spoiler: I wonder what happens with him and Tsurumi next chapter, will he get slapped in close combat again? What’s his deal Nodaaaa also a bear joining the fight oh my god

I am completely with you, anon! Noda could totally go the sexy and badass eye patch route, but instead he gave us this goofy glass eye, it's great, and even a bit refreshing because eye patches are a bit more tired. But I have such Ogata brainrot that I think even the glass eye is cute.
If Tsurumi slapped Ogata it would be kinda of amazing, but I think maybe Ogata could be able to do some real damage on Tsurumi before maybe even dying. I'm pretty sure that Ogata will not survive to live a normal life at all, and I feel like Noda will get some heat for this lol>>180150
Thanks anon, I will check it out!
File: 1642613856112.jpg (159.07 KB, 457x457, IMG_5632.JPG)
same here I actually think the eye is cute as fuck
To be honest I have absolutely no predictions what Noda will do to him. I know everyone expects him to die since forever, and that there are people who think he will get redeemed or something but even if he survives or realizes he is in the wrong there is no way someone like him could just “live normally”, he would still be fucked up and have to deal with this for the rest of his life. Ogata and gk characters in general are definitely living dangerously so there is good possibility for any of them to die.
But yeah no idea honestly, I could see anything happen at this point. I have the impression Noda gives 0 fucks about “karma” or the usual tropes and he treats all of his characters harshly, even Asirpa. I really hope she will be okay, it is hard to see how everything is taking a toll on her mental health too. It would be unrealistic if she would have stayed unaffected tho. And Sugimotos face is so shredded right now, damn
The only thing I am certain of is that he won’t let Asirpa die and that whatever happens, shit’s gonna be wild and I’m hyped for it
File: 1642681392455.jpeg (29.3 KB, 400x400, A359029C-09AF-4999-A338-9083AB…)
I absolutely agree that he gets over interpreted a lot, but he is one of the major characters after all and actually pretty elaborated on so I will not say that there is very little but yes definitely not as much as some people claim. The interview in which Noda says that, he explicitly says it in regard to him being surprisingly popular with women and that he doesn’t understand this and I am pretty sure he means his character design when he said he just drew him without thinking much. Pretty obvious he did not intend to write him as an irresistible sexgod sexyman which is what many seem to view him as for some reason. He always gave me ‘insecure virgin who thinks he’s tough’ vibes anyway so I don’t understand that either lol. but I think he’s cute and Noda gives him a lot of moe moments hehe
Anyway, what is the most ridiculous fandom theory you have heard about anything in gk? For me it was when fans thought Yuusakus eyes were really like asirpas so he is related to her or something like that. Noda even put something into the volume additions to make it clear that these are not his real eyes kek
File: 1642707956868.jpg (Spoiler Image, 122.64 KB, 564x853, 6412acdf689e7d2b350978ce46a89b…)
That interview is probably old, right? I can't imagine he's surprised anymore with new fans of Ogata considering he went to a big "ikemenization" process and now has a lot of fanservice or maybe that's fanservice just for me, picrel
>Yuusakus eyes were really like asirpas
WTF? kek I didn't see the volume additions to clarify this, I'll look it up. It would be as if someone said that Ogata was a clone because of Sugimoto dreams of 2 Ogatas and his Ogakitties in that fanbook comic.
File: 1642708554952.jpg (975.65 KB, 1606x1824, 1642708341477.jpg)
Samefag, but speaking of Ogata, I saw this fanmade figure and I wanted to share because it's damn impressive.
I also just got a notification for the new chapter in japanese! I read the first 3 pages cause I'm curious, but I'll wait for the translation so I can enjoy it 100% without any hiccups. Hopefully it comes out soon enough

I went ahead and read the new chapter anyway. Holy shit Is the Tsurumi and Ogata showdown actually happening??? And is that a
I stand by my prediction that I think will lose, but not without doing some big damage to Tsurumi before Sugimoto ends him. I hope Ogata doesn't die right now (or ever, according to the unrealistic desires of my heart)
Nooo for me as well, that scene was hot I admit it did something to me lol
No way this is not on purpose, I am convinced that Noda is horny for all of his characters. The interview was from 2018 or something if I remember it right.
I really have to step up my japanese I want to read everything in original language too!
> It would be as if someone said that Ogata was a clone because of Sugimoto dreams of 2 Ogatas and his Ogakitties in that fanbook comic.
lmao anon stop this is killing me, this is my favorite gk conspiracy theory now.>>180414
Wow that’s really good, I can not find a single flaw other than the color job at the yellow rank stripes. Pretty impressive! If there will be figures I hope they look as good as this.>>180503is that a bear
I’m scared for all the characters, but If Noda kills off ogata without him having to face sugimoto again I will be disappointed in his writing not because I’m horny for them (which I indeed am) but because this shit needs to be concluded, why elaborate on that if you scrap it later. Go ask him your questions, Sugimoto!
File: 1642779004617.jpeg (20.33 KB, 507x604, 21T11170142.jpeg)
>No way this is not on purpose, I am convinced that Noda is horny for all of his characters
Considering his author avatar on the fanbook was Henmi, out of all people lol I know it's a joke, but who knows…
>If there will be figures I hope they look as good as this
I have a small figure collection and I'd die to have GK ones. Even if they were nendos, like the Ogata one! I got into Golden Kamuy a bit too late, else I'd have voted in the GSC poll for new nendos for Sugimoto and Tsurumi from all of my devices kek I really want a Sugimoto nendo, it would be so cute. Regular faceplate, hinna faceplate, murder eyes faceplate. I hope they do a poll again soon!
Also, speaking of figures, this one was made by a professional sculptor, they I think it's a woman tbh apparently sent this prototype to companies for mass production but it was denied. Sad, I can imagine it would look beautiful fully painted and on my shelf.
>If Noda kills off ogata without him having to face sugimoto again I will be disappointed
You are right! I don't think he would kill off Ogata before he has a last
kiss chat with Sugimoto. Maybe even Asirpa too. Could it be one of those "right-before-death" redemption cases? I'd say Yuusaku would drag Ogata to hell, but I don't think Yuusaku is in there.
Also I think the bear getting on the train was a bit of jumping the shark lmao but I'm not gonna lie, the Tsurumi boss fight with a fucking bear will be insane, I can't wait to see it

I have nothing to contribute to this thread (never got into GK but mostly I'm too lazy to get into long series as of late).
I find the fandom has really quality fan arts, Great ship arts and doujin too. The characters are appealing. Here's one of my fav recently.
File: 1642840851321.jpg (549.29 KB, 1200x1174, 69624694_p6_master1200.jpg)
But you did contribute, I love the fanart you posted! Thanks, anon.
It does have great fanart. I'm guessing that's the case because I'm pretty sure that like 90% of the fanbase is adults, and mostly japanese as well. So the ugly teenager tumblr/twitter style is not very present at all.
When you have the disposition to read all of the 303 chapters, I'd totally recommend it! obviously, given the thread
it's long, but not Naruto or One Piece long, at least. And it's basically filler free.
As you said, the characters are really appealing, even though a lot of them use the same japanese military uniform, they all have their own spins to it and a lot of personality. There's a character/hudbando for everyone.
Thank you for the reply nona! I will give it another try after I finished my current manga backlog. 300+ chapters might not be too bad to flip through during my breaks. I'm looking forward to understand the context of all the 5829952 GK horny doujin I found weibo lol.
Is there anything I should keep in mind before I start? I saw a take somewhere that GK despite all its strong suits, does not treats its women well. Some of my ex friends used to make inside joke about GK, and one of them mentioned Sugimoto is a dog beater (???), what I saw was one panel he slapped the dog that bit him.
Do you guys have to deal with fans that are similar to JJBA fans? JJBA is supposedly another niche, appeal to older fans kind of series but cant help but attract zoomers that try so hard to hype something that wasn't meant for them. (rapid denying headcanons, woobify characters, etc).
Genuinely just a curious question, since I rarely see fandom that is "sane" these days, even coming from supposedly mature series.

>>180768>I'm looking forward to understand the context of all the 5829952 GK horny doujin I found weibo
Pretty please, nonnie
, share them! I'm so thirsty for more SugiOga content. I don't know one lick of chinese so I never checked weibo, and the majority of doujins in japanese that I saw were not scanned, just for sale. So I have to dig through pixiv and the likes lol
>Is there anything I should keep in mind before I start?
I don't know, there's a lot of gay fanservice? It's mostly played for laughs. It's also quite violent too, but I believe that was already obvious. Refer to this pic kek >>145288
>I saw a take somewhere that GK despite all its strong suits, does not treats its women well.
What do they mean by that? Legit asking. There are so few reoccurring women in the series, so maybe it's that? kek There's Asirpa and she's one of the main characters, she's super strong, independent and likeable. She is an easy target though because she's just a kid, but all things consideres she's very self-sufficient. The other most prominent woman is Inkarmat, and she's a bit more on the blander side but she's not offensive nor fanservice fodder? I literally counted one panel that could be fanservice (she was in rope bondage, fully clothed but still). There's also Sofia, an old woman that drinks and fights like the men. I feel like Inkarmat is the weakest out of those, but they are all realized characters with their own ambitions. They do kill minor women characters, but they scrote body count is way, way bigger.
>Sugimoto is a dog beater
KEK the panel that you saw was literally the only time this ever happens, and it's a bear hunting dog - a slap like that is nothing lol Sugimoto actually really loves most animals and it's cute as fuck
>Do you guys have to deal with fans that are similar to JJBA fans?
I also like Jojo and while I do usually stay by the japanese side of fandom, the difference is staggering. The teen fans of Jojo are everywhere, you can't look up for fanart without crossing with ugly trans Narancia with vitiligo at least once. Probably because the JJBA anime got huge, and the Golden Kamuy one never really, really
took off. It has some fans, but most just read the manga anyway. It's funny though because every video that I saw of GK had at least on comment in japanese, even a video that was a reference to a scottish comedy show. and there was a japanese comment like "I love this even though I don't understand english". I guess GK fans are starving everywhere because the fandom is quite small lol So that's probably why it looks sane.
File: 1642852186485.jpeg (153.36 KB, 994x994, E538AA36-B368-492B-BA18-678A3C…)
I mean it is written by a man after all. It do has rather few female characters and there is some manpain but I personally dont think the women are treated badly. An issue could be that some female characters (who are relatively minor characters mostly) act as a plot device for other more major (male) characters but this counts for minor male characters as well. Didn’t stop me from enjoying the story so far I honestly think it’s not such a big deal and I’m usually very annoyed about stuff like this. I hope I’m not blinded by my thirst for the guys haha
In comparison with other series written by men it really does good imo, and I like that the fanservice is almost exclusively on back of the males lol. What I like about it too is that the women in this series are portrayed as humans instead of “women”, if you know what I mean. Idk it’s just that there is so much blatant dehumanization and misogyny in manga that gk felt really refreshing to me so I wouldn’t be too afraid of that but that is just my personal experience.
Hm.. It is nowhere as popular as JJBA in the west, so it is probably not as worse. I don’t hang out in fandoms a lot but when I do from what I’ve seen it sure has some fans who are annoying about stuff or woobify characters but they mostly keep to themselves and are easy to avoid. Most seem to be pretty laidback and only want to enjoy the series and sperg about it.
lol yes the dog bites him so he slaps him in return that’s it.
Other topic but I love how many really good artists start to get into gk and then do nothing other than post ogata art for months because they have such brainrot lmao
. It sure seems to attract a lot of people who can draw for some reason. Or do stuff like this >>180540

Thanks for the detailed reply! As for the comic, there's one artist I followed since Touken Ranbu era. She used to have this one huge compilation tweet of her Sugimoto x (cat eye dude) comic that was Really really hot ahh I love how she draws bodies and the watercoloring
The artist twitter is @Itsuki_m5
and picrel is her art!
> What do you mean by "GK does not treat its women well"
I wouldn't know the exact context of that paragraph either, since it's just a tweet I came across during the time my TL was filled with GK brainrots. I might've mistaken it for another series (Yakuza), I don't mind violence and gore, though I do get really uncomfortable when seeing women being physically harmed in media.
Your comment is insightful to me, thank you for taking the time to reply!>>180777>sometimes minor role female characters acted as a plot device
I appreciate the heads up! I tend to have more attachment towards female characters, so I wanted to make sure I can avoid the unneeded (2D) emotional pain if a female character gets killed off or something like that.
> It seems to attract people who can draw for some reasons
Yeah.. I only have one friend whos in GK and is not an artist. I've had more artist friends who draws GK. I've once got invited to a GK zine because my friend thought
I was into the series for buying her merch lol. It is quite popular with East Asia conventions! GK is definitely big in here, or at least how I saw it was all stacked on the bookshelves when I visited China once.>>180778

This artist is really good! I like the watercolors too very pretty.> I wanted to make sure I can avoid the unneeded (2D) emotional pain if a female character gets killed off or something like that.
Giving that there are very few women characters in gk you should be fine, but there are some hard hitting scenes in general so it’s not the best manga if you want to avoid getting affected by tragedy although nothing of it feels unnecessary and gk has a good balance between humor and drama in my opinion.>>180778
love how there are so many artfags itt me included but I would never post my stuff here even if this is my favorite image board but the idea that we stumble over each other’s fanart without knowing is fun!

This art is so pretty! Are they like a different species or the author just like to draw pointy ears? I will definitely check out her stuff later!
>if you keep producing fan arts then we may run into each other one day maybe
That would be super cute. Who knows, someday!>>180816>gonna add this to my “why do I have so many pictures of ogata” collection
I feel like a lot of us have that folder lmao the answer is cause he's hot
I can't verify right now, but if I'm not mistaken, it's by Chise Haruki: https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/29308211
Honestly, even if it's not by her, she's worth checking it out. She made the 7th division blindfold fanart I posted earlier!
>me included but I would never post my stuff here even if this is my favorite image board but the idea that we stumble over each other’s fanart without knowing is fun!
same! I wouldn't post it here, even more so if it's a completed piece, but I hope we come across each other's art someday in the wild haha

I think it was from the mermaid doujin they were selling, you can check if it's still in stock (though it's been like two years since.. I think)https://ec.toranoana.jp/joshi_r/ec/item/040030710434
File: 1642889150434.jpg (701.13 KB, 1200x1200, 95659072_p2_master12002.jpg)
I usually don't like different species type of doujin/fanart, but this art is so beautiful, I am willing to give it a shot.
I actually didn't exactly ship Sugimoto and Ogata before, I just liked to see them together because they were hot and my favorite characters. But chapter 188 changed me lol
I wonder if Noda would actually be the absolute madmand and make one of his main characters actually gay/bi? I highly doubt it, but it would be a boss move. We do have the gay yakuza couple, Henmi and the rest of the gay tension sea otter nabe
, but none of the main characters. I thought Usami, Koito or Ogata could be the best candidates. According to the fanbook, Usami is actually very popular with the ladies and sleep around, but his death with Tsurumi was so fucking gay
. No confirmation though. I don't think he would make any couples
official or anything, but just one character admit his gayness or whatnot.
Admittedly, I have a bit of fujo goggles on, but given the whole manga…

>>180699>would be cool if you posted your reactions to the chapters you are currently reading
I dont dont mind! Though i am small brain reader so i wont be able to provide interesting commentary expect for like ”wow this guy hot” Jokes aside i did get genuinely surprised by the young tsurumi twist in this chapter, i didnt think we would see him younger than what he was in his bomb accident with tsukishima! Young tsurumi looks like a nerd kek. Also earlier chapters before this ogata got sick with fewer and started hallucinating his brother and it was beautiful and haunting. Im starting to like him a lot, the moments he indulged asirpa with citatap and hinna were peak moe. I can understand why people like him now. All i want right now is for sugimotos group and kirorankes to meet up again, i really miss them being together already. Looks like stuff is gonna go down in akou prison so i need to continue reading to see if what happens. Also sofia is such a chad, i love her
No idea if to spoiler text since its not the most recent chapter info but just in case.

Thanks anon for indulging my request! "This man hot" is totally acceptable commentary. Also I think spoilering is a good idea, for those that maybe will feel inspired to read it next cause "this man hot".
The Tsurumi twist also got me! He was kinda nerdish, but he was also a spy, so I think the glasses were just for the disguise, since he doesn't use it anymore
. I like Sofia too! Her appearance did a complete 180° lmao
I love Ogata's fever chapters, but maybe I am biased kek. The backstory he has with Yuusaku is one of my favorites. To be fair, I'd say most if not all backstories are pretty well done. But I am really curious as if Ogata will get closure with the Yuusaku thing, because he sure didn't with his dad or his mom. But since Yuusaku is the only one that actually haunts him, I believe it will be adressed in some way.>I'm starting to like him a lot, the moments he indulged asirpa with citatap and hinna were peak moe. I can understand why people like him now
Anon, the Ogata brainrot is too strong. I didn't think I was gonna like him as much as I do, but alas. I think a lot of people really like him even if he's not necessarily their favorite character.>All i want right now is for sugimotos group and kirorankes to meet up again, i really miss them being together already.
I agree, when I was reading I kept wishing for that too. The whole group dynamic was pretty strong, like when they're all together fighting on the Onsen? Amazing. I think Shiraishi and Sugimoto work better than Shiraishi and Ogata, I guess because Ogata doesn't care that much for Shiraishi or even Kiro. I think out of the new group, Ogata cares about Asirpa the most, and I personally think it's a mix of needing her and actually kinda liking her, because of how she trusted him earlier and said she saw him in a new light for protecting Tanigaki. I feel like Ogata likes when people give him genuine signs of affection like that, as opposed to Tsurumi who's just a manipulator.
That being said, I do like Koito, Tsukishima, Tanigaki and Sugimoto's group interactions. Especially Sugimoto bickering with Koito
File: 1642941367730.png (1.32 MB, 750x1334, IMG_7004.PNG)
Duude Sugimoto bickering with koito is so funny! They are both such drama queens especially koito I love it. Vagrant dog boy vs spoiled brat! >>180912
I’ve heard someone mention that Usami sleeping with lots of women was a translation error and the meaning of the sentence was actually different but my jap is too bad to confirm. I mean he is a predatory crime scene masturbator but he would do anything for Tsuwumi and is legitimately in love/obsessed with him? what he did to Kadokura, omg did any of you notice that Noda gave him an open fly and a boner in the volume additions when he had ogata down on the floor? I bet it was because spanking Kadokura’s ass turned him on
I love Usami by the way he is such an unhinged freak. Koito yeah .. and Ogata is either too autistic or gay as fuck but confused about it, change my mind lol>>180954
I’m there for it too I don’t care how small brained it is! I’m happy to read everything, from ridiculous tinfoiling to stating the obvious. But yes I think using spoilers for important happenings is good.

Koito is the number 1 drama queen, I absolutely love him. When he checked his pocket mirror? Agh, I love all of them.
>Usami sleeping with lots of women was a translation error
Really? I didn't check it! I will look for the page and see if my japanese is good enough for it. If not, my brother is basically fluent so I could ask him for the correction.>Noda gave him an open fly and a boner in the volume additions when he had ogata down on the floor?
WAT. I need to see this?? Where do I find the tankoubon scans? I legit can only find the magazines'. Even the raws I've downloaded seem to use the magazine scans from like chapter 200 onward.
I also love Usami and how psycho he is. Highly entertaining. My current laptop wallpaper is actually picrel.

omfg nonas have you seen the raws?? I don’t have words right now this shit is intense but I like what Noda did there, I was afraid he would do an asspull moment. Here's my brother's translation for the Usami question
>Q: Usami loves Tsurumi, but does he have experience with the ladies, I wonder?
Noda: I can't see him being able to have true sexual intercourse with women, but Usami doing things you wouldn't expect is his scariest trait.

I really don’t know why I should care about what fans do but they better be doing lots of fanart. I too liked the idea of him not caring about it, rip to that..the mental illnes is strong in this one
But I love this telenovela tier relationship drama we got now! As I view it he still is a failed attempt, this is literally yandere cat behavior towards tsurumi. Tsurumi looks pissed af after having to witness this tantrum. I can not imagine he really appreciates having his unloved son rebel against him and destroying his plans, stealing his kill etc. Also Usami was right all along about ogata and his daddy/mommy issues kek.
Usami’s legacy is getting stronger every chapter >>181491

I had to hunt down the raws after your posts nonnies maybe it will be more emotional when I can read what they say but honestly I'm a little disappointed? (to be fair Ogata's motives have been kept a mystery for so long I can't think of anything that wouldn't be disappointing so at least this was unexpected kek) If it's true it reminds me of the dog story about Usami in chapter 226, picrel. All along Ogata was basically a jealous child acting out? Idk. I think some people's disappointment might stem from not understanding Ogata's character and thinking he's some cool, collected, unemotional badass when in reality he is simply mentally ill. I completely loved the other moments Ogata kind of lost his mind so hopefully I'll enjoy this chapter once it's translated
Sorry if this is rambly and doesn't make sense I have a lot of thoughts but struggle articulating them.

I tried reading the raws but gave up after the first page cause my japanese is too shit for a dialogue-heavy chapter. When I saw 年齢制限 and ご令息 I knew I wasn't cut for it yet. Gotta wait for the translation.
As an Ogatafag also I'm anticipating it a lot, sorry

no need to apologize nona, if you want I can give you a rough summary but the translated chapter will be out soon anyway. don’t be ashamed to like ogata, you are clearly not one of the annoying fans and hes popular for a reason. >>181815I mean he still does this for his own autistic reasons, not for Tsurumis sake like the others. But given his personality and 100 mental issues he is acting out on him by getting in his way and now making ridiculous demands. Tsurumi is just another parent-like person that abandoned him. His mother being core part of the motivation is actually very sweet. I get why Noda always gives ogata so many moe panels now, this guy is genuinely cute in a very deranged way. I personally like this more than him being an unemotional edgelord and it fits very well with everything we got so far. If this is all an act then my condolences to ogata the great cunning actor who couldn’t even lie to a child!
Also that panel where tsukishima head dents the roof and they see each other
is so funny!
spoilers aside, I can’t get over how Tsurumi, the man who lost his family and could never be a real parent himself,
acts like some sort of fucked up substitute family towards the guys.

Thanks, anon! Don't worry about it, I'll wait for the translation so I can enjoy it smoothly. It's probably going to be out by next week. To be completely fair, I could keep using my dictionaries to read it, but I'd rather not spend 20 min per page looking for vintage military kanjis kek
And thank you again, you're so nice! I'm not necessarily ashamed of liking him, it's just that I didn't want to ruin the mood by being a fan girl or something like that.
that's true I can appreciate that Ogata has been doing this out of spite kek. I didn't realize that's what the panels with his mom were about! That actually makes me appreciate it a lot more. It feels like Noda was leading up to this with the page of Ogata sleeping on the train with the flashback of his mom singing him a lullaby. This makes me a lot less apprehensive about the chapter, thank you for sharing! I agree this is definitely better than his only motivation being central or some shit, now that would be disappointing.
The Tsukishima panel was so funny!! I saw a japanese artist make a gag comic with that exact scenario on twitter I can't believe it actually happened! >>182122

Thanks, you’re welcome! chapter should be out tomorrow, the translators often release it on sunday. Ah I see! As long as you don’t derail every conversation or try to excessively woobify him I don’t see the issue.>>182153>that Tsukishima comic
OMfg I’ve seen that too! I have to look it up again, do you remember who made it?>It feels like Noda was leading up to this
Yes and he did portray him in a child-like manner before. Remember that page where he sleeps alone away from the others and Huci is singing that lullaby about growing up for example? It’s super interesting to me because I have the impression that themes related to growing up are something Noda emphasizes a lot on, understandable since he has a child too. But it definitely is a reoccurring theme in gk and I see it the most in characters like Asirpa, Ogata and Koito. As crazy as it is sometimes, you can really recognize that Gk is written by a mature person who actually has a life instead of a retarded incel who make up a good proportion of manga authors too sadly.
By the way I love Shiraishis character development so far! He is still a filthy sex buyer but I feel like he grows to be more responsible over time.
Talking of woobyfying, this is a bit of an ot fandom rant but: Imo people who act like he did nothing wrong are obviously annoying, but so are those who cannot comment on anything related to him without having to state how much they hate him or want him to suffer. (No offense to genuine Ogata haters tho you guys are valid). I just have the impression that many fans don’t want to look like they “woobify” him at all costs so they feel like they have to bring this up all the fucking time which is getting a bit old sometimes when it’s otherwise unrelated to the topic lol. Like we get it you enjoy a ‘problematic’ character ok, way to cope. Is this a display of the modern twittery urge to always make a statement or disclaimer for everything?
ok this turned out to be a bit longer and more meta than I thought. To be honest I appreciate how laid back and not fandom-related the conversations in here are, I think if you hang out in fandoms too much it can taint your experience of enjoying a series so sorry for bringing that up myself lol.>>180540>else I'd have voted in the GSC poll for new nendos for Sugimoto and Tsurumi from all of my devices kek

I just went to check this on twitter! I can't believe it, my prayers were heard!
I will try to save some money somehow, because I just
bought the Ogata nendo. It literally arrived yesterday lmao
I hope the sales go well and we have another chance of a Sugimoto nendo! I would love to have one to make company to Ogata. I also dream this night that I was gifted a Koito nendoroid so maybe that was a vision kek
>>182261>do you remember who made it?
I don't remember, sorry! >you can really recognize that Gk is written by a mature person who actually has a life instead of a retarded incel who make up a good proportion of manga authors too sadly.
This is so true, and is definitely why gk is so well rounded. It avoids so many of the usual anime tropes so it's really refreshing. Every character has had such good development, and Shiraishi has somehow turned into one of the more reliable men in the group. Even though I could never husbando him I can't help but love him!
The most exposure I've had with the fandom is following mostly Japanese artists on twitter, so you've made me thankful I've missed out on that. It's so annoying when people try to moralfag about liking a "problematic
" character. First of all they're not real and if characters in stories only ever did good things it would be the most boring garbage. And I find the bad or morally grey characters are usually more interesting and fully fleshed out as people, whereas the "good guys" are one dimensional so of course people are gonna like them more.>>182354
I'm just praying that the figures aren't as expensive as others from this manufacturer. I checked it out and it seems most are close to 1000$. At least we'll know they'll be good quality for the people who can afford them…

finally read the translated version, forgive my slowpokeness>>181542>>181472
I also see it as a failed attempt. In the original chapter when we first see this flashback, Tsurumi says all of that shit and it's shown that Ogata is thinking "Oh, you seductive bastard" or something like that, showing that he knows damn well that Tsurumi is trying to manipulate him. The only thing that has changed, imo, is that Ogata was still trying to use Tsurumi for his own interests. I guess he was trying to out-manipulate him, but Ogata is not that collected and calculated lol I think probably part of him still saw Tsurumi as something of a father figure, too.>Usami’s legacy is getting stronger every chapter
Usami is such a deranged Chad lmao>>181815
It's out, nonnie
! Come back here to give your opinions when you can >>182075>His mother being core part of the motivation is actually very sweet.
Agreed. I think it's a mix of being for his mother, as he genuinely cared for her -as a lot of children do-, but also as something to prove to himself and others? Maybe even his dead mom. He has this obsession of trying to be normal, or at least perceived as normal even though he comes from a broken family. Becoming a high-rank military men would prove that anyone can do that, even him, so he's totally high functioning and not mentally ill at all.>I get why Noda always gives ogata so many moe panels now, this guy is genuinely cute in a very deranged way.
The duality of the wildcat…>Tsurumi acts like some sort of fucked up substitute family towards the guys.
I love this as well kek>>182261>try to excessively woobify him I don’t see the issue.
I really don't get the appeal of this. His character is much more interesting because he's fucked up? Just like Usami, as well, but in a different way. I guess that's also why I like his relationship with Asirpa so much, she was almost accidentally "fixing" him, almost being the mother that could never properly him, but nope. Just like picrel >>182122
which I personally find great. I don't think Ogata deserves a proper redemption arc, at best he regrets his shit as he dies.
Weirdly enough, I think Tsukishima would be a much better candidate for woobifying? I do feel very bad for him and his deal with Egogusa. I guess he's just not designed as hot for the fandom to latch on that much.
>Yes and he did portray him in a child-like manner before. Remember that page where he sleeps alone away from the others and Huci is singing that lullaby about growing up for example?
I wonder if Noda does that because Ogata was the one with the worst childhood out of all the 7th Division guys? Second would be Tsukishima, but not that he was unloved as a kid, but he was a troublemaker and people didn't want to deal with him so much. He still had a girlfriend and a parental figure, I guess.>you can really recognize that Gk is written by a mature person who actually has a life instead of a retarded incel who make up a good proportion of manga authors too sadly.
About the fandom thing, I'm with this anon >>182386
and I really haven't seem most of that stuff, as I also basically just follow japanese artists and stuff like that. It's weird that anyone would try to moralfag in GK at all manga? Even the hero of the story have killed hundreds of men and go berserk and kill so more in the present time kek Where do you draw the line? Your own level of attractiveness to said characters?>>182386
They do a lot of actual statuettes x figures, like sized 1/3, 1/4. They are really big and detailed so I get the prices, but hopefully the kinkamu ones will be regular, shelf-sized. By the looks of the concept art, they'll have that bit of terrain alongside the figures. I am guessing it will be on the $300-500 price range, hopefully. Which it still is a lot of fucking money, but at least it's not 1k+

The newfag reader tsurumi simp here again, managed to read up to ch 243 so i have done a lot of progress! Avoided this thread because im still too tempted to click to spoilers kek sorry for the late replies!>>180977>But I am really curious as if Ogata will get closure with the Yuusaku thing, because he sure didn't with his dad or his mom
Oh god i sure hope he does, but i got a really bad feeling about it. Since ogata feels so suicidal to me right now with him trying to get asirpa to kill him on the ice drifts. I hope he doesnt die and see yuusaku meeting him in his last moments or something but i definitely hope i will see more of yuusaku, him making ogata annoyed in the flashbacks is a need. I havent catched up on manga yet i hope more happens
>I think Shiraishi and Sugimoto work better than Shiraishi and Ogata
When sugimoto and shiraishi met up again i wanted to cry, i missed these two together so damn much! And i agree with you, ogata and shiraishi are too different and awkarwd with eachother, and not in a good way. Not to mention shiraishi felt like he was out of his element with kiroranke group since he was worried over asirpa so much. Talking about shiraishi, i kinda cant believe how much he grew as a character i really respect him now even though i always liked him. I felt bad when he mentioned to the pirate convict that sugimoto and asirpa dont trust him like he does them and it made me so sad. Glad that got sorted out quickly though! I wonder how the gold situation is gonna affect the sugimoto group once they find it…if they even will.
>I do like Koito, Tsukishima, Tanigaki and Sugimoto's group interactions
Same! Koito and sugimoto fighting it out was funny, and tsukishima being koitos nanny was hilarious and kinda cute. Im still recovering from tsukishima and koitos conversation at the harbour about the lenghts tsurumi went to manipulate tsukishima and make him loyal to him. I usually enjoy loud and weird characters but tsukishima grew on me a lot especially during this time. My man wants top spot in tsurumi theathre goddamn>>181063
Glad to hear it anon, hope i can provide. So much happened last time i posted here, this manga is so intense. Ogata and asirpa on the drift ice and ogata getting shot in the eye and sugimoto giving him a good suck lmao. I did not expect asirpa to remember what his father told to him either. Also ogata speaking russian? Im so confused this better get explained. His escape from the hospital was funny, he really is fully unhinged now. Koito and tsurumis first meeting was also neat. Tsurumi is just too charming and cunning i love him even if hes awful. From the beginning i expected the whole kidnapping situation to be fake and im glad i was right. The way it tied into the bigger plot with tsukishima and ogata was really cool to see. Usamis backstory actually freaked me out though. Right off the bat i got a bad feeling. Now sugimotos group is back together and vasily stalking behind. I really hope vasily and sugimoto meet up with ogata, i wanna see the showdown. The group being back together is so fun i missed it. Right now im left at the copycat jack the ripper convict and usami investigating the scene of the crime an cumming everywhere so i need to mentally take a small break for a while kek

Welcome back, anon! Don't worry about the late replies.>Him making ogata annoyed in the flashbacks is a needWhen Kikuta says "I don't get why he killed him, they seemed to get along well" and Ogata is basically picrel, always crack me up kek>When sugimoto and shiraishi met up again i wanted to cry, i missed these two together so damn much!It is the cutest scene, right?? Sugimoto also looks so so cute, I just wanted to hug him.>Talking about shiraishi, i kinda cant believe how much he grew as a character i really respect him now even though i always liked him.I also always liked Shiraishi! To me his main flaw is being a brothel goer (and I also thought the first joke he makes about Asirpa being Sugimoto's dog was in really bad taste especially since she's a child, but nothing that a good Sugimoto slapping didn't solve), but he became such a reliable guy. I think is a bit unfair how the characters kept calling him useless and stupid and whatnot, cause to me he always tried his best, even when he was "double timing" with Hijikata, he wasn't planning to betray Sugimoto at all, or when he asked to "lend" Retar, it wasn't because he was trying to be selfish. I like how he's unapologetic himself, and will call everyone by the chan suffix, even Kiroranke and Ogata lol>I usually enjoy loud and weird characters but tsukishima grew on me a lot especially during this time.
It's hard to not love them all. Or at least appreciate their character and where they are coming from. As some other anon mentioned itt, the main characters are pretty well rounded. I'd say the least one is Nikaido, the guy just fucking lost it; but even so there's a moment in the future that pulled my heartstrings a bit with him.
>ogata getting shot in the eye and sugimoto giving him a good suck lmaokek anon that scene to me was a fanservice bigger than any otter nabe, especially since it is so serious. I lost my shit at it>Also ogata speaking russian? Im so confused this better get explained.
This is not so weird if you think that a lot of soldiers end up learning at least a bit of the language of where they are stationed/doing war, be it for necessity or just by absorbing it naturally. Ogata is also a first private (that's the name I think) so he's not as low in the hierarchy as Tanigaki or Sugimoto. I'll go ahead and say that it since it's not in the manga cause it's not integral to the plot, but in the fanbook Noda says Ogata and Tsukishima took classes with Tsurumi to learn russian. And Tsukishima obviously was more dedicated to it, since his life kinda depended on it.>His escape from the hospital was funny, he really is fully unhinged now
I love this scene >>146249
, Ogata just mockingly opening his arms cause Sugimoto is that much
of a lousy shot + full on unhinged ecstasy >Usamis backstory actually freaked me out though. Right off the bat i got a bad feeling.
Our psycho king! He sure is scary. And him jacking it off, no pun intended… I also found it a bit hard to take lol tbh, that arc is not one of my favorites, although I do like some stuff that happens there as well

I never knew if Kikuta was serious about that or if he just wanted to see Usami spill more tea.
Also those chapters, fucking hell. But the more the time passes the more I appreciate him. The chapter cover with the Usami sperm faces killed me.
It really is so hard to not care about the characters!
So far there has been no one I’m not invested in to some degree aside from some minor ones maybe. They are just so well written. Tsukishima for example is one of the ones I don’t think are that interesting character-wise, but he still gets me invested because even if I think he’s a dead inside soldier bot at this point which I kind of dislike him for
I still want him to chill and take long baths. But if he dies or whatever so be it. Same goes for the characters who I care more about, like Sugimoto, Koito and Ogata. I want them to be alright, but if they get killed in this dangerous ass scenario I probably won’t be surprised or disappointed.>I think is a bit unfair how the characters kept calling him useless and stupid and whatnot
me too, but I guess it’s kind of a running gag, same with Tanigaki getting bullied for being thicc or ogata getting beat for being a bastard lol>>183029
I love Tsukishima having to act as Koito’s nanny, they really are like a spoiled princess and her maid lol.>>182577>It's weird that anyone would try to moralfag in GK at all manga? Even the hero of the story have killed hundreds of men and go berserk and kill so more in the present time kek Where do you draw the line? Your own level of attractiveness to said characters?
Probably the latter lol.
Moralfagging in a series like this where almost nothing is sacred is super weird but seems to be a mainly western phenomenon. The most disturbing ones are those who moralfag about characters and then continue to indulge in their way too explicit creative ideas in how they should die or get punished in the most horrific ways, those are really unhinged
Ugh I guess I should resort to fanart only interaction as well haha

So the new raws are out!
I swear to God these action packed chapters feel so short! I wish it was like double the pages, it goes by too fast.
I liked Koito's little self reflection. I think it's kinda odd that the entirety of twitter is already drawing him with a scar when Sugimoto got roasted-eggplanted by a bear and didn't get the second set of scars. I mean, not saying it's impossible at all, but I think it's a bit too soon to tell lol I guess it would make sense as in a character growth point of view though, like yeah, he's past his perfect prince self now, he's actually a warrior and stuff.
Alsooo I'm sure Noda is not going to kill Tsukishima like that without a proper moment between him and one of the main characters (very likely Koito), but I worry for him. He was directly under that grenade. Pray for my man
Again, the bear on the train is very absurd lol but I wonder how they'll get rid of it. Will they all run for the last car? I guess these random soldiers will act like a meat barrier to slow down the bear
Picrel is not what actually happens in the chapter and it's mostly a fan's rendition of what could happen next, but I'm spoilering just in case because it still can be a bit spoilery on the conditions of these characters

That’s a cute picture! I spoilered mine for obvious story related reasons.
Yeah there is happening a lot, please Noda bless us one more time with something sweet when this madness is over… but I have the feeling that the suffering only just begun.oh my god the action right now is intense. So many different happenings to keep track of. I don’t think Tsukishima will necessarily die right now although it would be realistic, but he will without a doubt be severely damaged and pull a broken Terminator moment if he’s still alive. If he is coming out of this just fine without proper reason it would be ridiculous even by gk standards. Only possibility for him to survive this is that the other soldiers shielded him with their bodies all at once or something. He needs to see the Tsurumi theater on his vip seat until the end, after all!
But yes I too am glad that Koito finally got some character development! It was long overdue imo and it became kind of annoying to see him still screech for Tsukishima lately when he basically dropped him for Tsurumi’s awesome VIP tickets a few chapters ago, like boy your nanny won’t save you anymore he has other priorities now. I agree a scar would be cool! And I have the suspicion that sugimoto or asirpa have to deal with that bear somehow or something really wild happens. omg the bear is so over the top I love it. Bear vs Ushiyama rematch maybe?

I finally reached most recent chapter!>>183067>When Kikuta says "I don't get why he killed him, they seemed to get along well"
I laughed at that scene so much, Yuusaku is so precious.
>shiraishi will call everyone by the chan suffix, even Kiroranke and Ogata lol
Wait, really? That is so cute but i had no idea since i cant read jp. Somehow knowing this information made me like him even more kek.
>kek anon that scene to me was a fanservice bigger than any otter nabe, especially since it is so serious. I lost my shit at it
It felt extra lewd because it looks like sugimoto and ogata are looking at eachother in the eyes while its happening too. When i first saw that scene i blushed like a maiden and closed the manga tab for a sec to process what had just happened. I agree this was more lewd than the otter pot incident! Also your explanation as to why ogata knows russian actually makes a lot of sense. I somehow thought he was going to be a russian spy at first or something but i guess hes for central lol.Kinda funny how i was freaked out by usami at first but by the end of the beer factory story he became one of my fav characters, but i only realized this after he died. Usami knows hes a piece in tsurumis play and he likes it, a true tsurumisexual chad. That interrogation tsurumi did to sofia and asirpa was amazing, tsurumi is such a little shit for wearing wilks face like that. It was really unsettling and i love seeing him being weird like that. Then the whole flashback with protecting Yuusakus virginity… i have no words, it was just so funny. I think the highlight was for me Sugimoto (pretending to be Yuusaku) barging in the room naked and Ogata thinking hes meeting his brother for the first time and having the dumbest grin on his face. After that story progressed so fast. I cant believe Sugimoto gang actually found gold? Im surprised it actually exists! Tsurumi continues to chase after them, i really loved the progressively creepier imagery shown of him like when he chases asirpa on the hill or shoots sofia. The art is so good in this manga! Ogata continues to have his fake eye, its goofy kek. Escalating to the events on the train i am not sure how to feel about ogatas goals but i will wait. Right now my main concern is tsukishima really, i really like him and i dont want him to die. Im scared what the damage from the grenade is gonna be like. I even got a weird thought that he might get similar injury to tsurumi. Little snotty nosed koito was so cute though, that part at least healed my heart a bit. Cant believe i gotta wait for new chapters now, got used to reading it whenever i wanted to. Im excited to see this till the end!
