this is so much ridiculous target crap, anon… you guys would like stuff like this, no offense.

i hate that in all of these aesthetic shabby chic room photos they have to cram as much bric a brac into them as physically possible. it's the biggest boner killer. it makes me nauseous. pic related is cute and perfect in terms of color/accents and the overall ethereal feel, but it's completely fucking ruined by the fact that they've shoved a stupid, useless roman pedestal in a 2x2 room, and have strewn vaguely cream colored garbage everywhere. i don't know why weirdos online with all this cash can't master shabby chic without filling every square inch of space with what are effectively $15 tj maxx birdcages and stupid misplaced teapots everywhere

that anon was not me but i did google 'grandmas house living room', and 'grandma living room' and nothing of the sort came up. not that i mind that you think it's grandma-y, i just don't see it. i think you're thinking 'frills', floral centerpieces, and 'floral sofa' immediately means grandma, but they're implemented very differently.

pic related is grandma's house, if anything. i've yet to meet a grandma with such a nice living room as the above, personally, but maybe they're different where you are. it just seems like basic green themed shabby chic to me

Probably regional. The second picture they posted has some furniture my 86 year old great aunt has in her living room. The shabby chic green room was just a mess of early 90’s country charm.

those aren't modern style chairs, anon, what are you talking about? they're shabby chic louis xvi style fauteuils. they literally fit the baroque period. regardless, i can't believe you autists are REEEing about repros as if it makes any sense at all to have 270 year old furniture in a living room designed to be lived in, and as if any furniture that is done in a certain period style needs to be authentically 900 years old and that everything needs to exactly match

i love all of these dark, plant-filled spaces. they remind me of my friends places in NYC.

this one's adorable, too.

i've seen people do the plant look with silk fakes, which are getting very realistic, but dusting looks impossible. i've heard pressurized air, but to get it really clean i think you'd have to take it all down every three months, give it a good swish in the sink, then re-hang everything.

i know real plants can get mites but honestly i'll take the mites. pothos are resistant and grow like weeds. i used them as a shower curtain once, it looked great. wish i had a pic.

I love this Korean-apartment aesthetic of neutral white with a sleek feel but also a homey feel? I usually see this aesthetic with Asian cultures and I wish I could emulate it but it looks very minimalistic aside from the art and I'm a person who has not-aesthetic but random crap all over the floor.

Right. In the past I've had my mattress on the ground for about a year and a half, not for ~~aesthetic~~ purposes but out of necessity, and I've had no problems at all. Just keep things clean well like you would any room and any bed.

No. 110609

If there’s even the slightest bit of humidity, it’s gonna grow mould between the mattress and the carpet.

You can get wooden pallets for free so it’s never necessary so have a mattress mouldering on the floor like a crack-goblin. You must live on the driest climate on earth, or your bed is mouldy inside and you just can’t see it.

Saved, thanks anons.

My aesthetic has been bright/clashing, somewhat eclectic, and local artist/craftsman-based with some ephemera, for a long time. All of my belongings have to fit in a suitcase these days, so maybe I'll slowly develop a new aesthetic. Right now it's a sham of its former self.

The Selby is In Your Place gives the general idea, especially around the time it came out. (The rooms in the book look dated but cute now.)

TBH most of these seem staged and a pain in the ass to maintain. So I assume a lot of anons here must be underage or haven't lived on their own. Like, a lot of these "plants everywhere" pictures feature pants growing above a stove, which would never work, so it must be staged. Also none of the kitchens here have a vent above the stove which is just retarded.

No. 110628

I would hate having a tonne of plants in my room tbh, they look nice in photos but they just give the impression of dirtiness when they're everywhere. Like, the smell of the dirt at least.

But this is an inspo thread, of course they are staged and probably from interior design magazines or websites or something. They don't have to be practical or livable, or based on experience living alone. Of course in my own place, ease of cleaning is a priority. That means minimal clutter and easy to dust surfaces.

No. 110629

There’s always dead leaves to pick up, it attracts bugs and gives them lots of hiding places, feeding the plants reeks, soil can grow moulds.. it’s really not that great. A few plants is nice but living in a potted jungle sucks ass.

No. 110630

What about air plants?
Less water means less moisture which potentially means less mold/smell
Bugs/leaves might still be an issue though

Also, I hear that watering plants from the bottom helps eliminates mold/smell because the top layer is dry and there's not enough water in the soil to grow much else (because the plants only take up what they need through their roots)

or just have fake plants if you just like the aesthetic–might be nice to pair with LEDs for a magic forest type of feeling?

No. 110631

I've always lived with house plants and have literally never encountered any of these problems. I live in an appartment though, not a house. The smell of dirt is very faint and if anything it just smells like the rain, have never had bugs, have had to pick up maybe like 3 leaves per plant per year because they grow very slowly.
To each their own i guess, probably depends on the type and species of plants too, it's just curious to me that i can't relate to any of those problems.
The most annoying thing about owning plants imo is not being able to go on trips without having someone to care for your plants.

No. 110632

I've rented several places without a vent over the stove. Wasn't pleased with it but it seems common from cheapo landlords.

Weird question but does anyone here sleep under just a blanket, without a cover you insert it into or whatever? Damn, is that considered a weird thing to do? My family and I always just used a plain old blanket to sleep under. Duvets are overrated and fucking annoying to wash. I have a duvet now but it's mostly for decoration or if I get really cold and need it on top of my blanket. But 90% of the time I just sleep under a giant king sized plush blanket like pic related, it's comfy.

I love these too, I used to like stuff like >>110533 untill I actually lived in an attic that was entirely covered in wood, 40m² and was super hot. In my country, not every house has air conditioning systems, that room used to get like, 40ºC in the summer easily, had two small windows and a fireplace. It was beautiful but not really nice and comfy. Also, spiders, a LOT of them.
Now when I look at dark, wooden, with big carpets and curtains rooms I can only think of spiders and dust. My room now is like a dream, I am so grateful for having it, it is light, comfy and brings peace. Crazy how changing my room lifted my mood so much and increased my productivity

Minimalism is again gaining popularity because most on the active people on line are under 30 years old. They are studying and/or have not much money, possibly depressed and/or feel revolutionary so having no clutter gives them the entitled pass to talk shit to others.
I love minimalism, but after a while you start to notice who gets into it for clout and who actually needs help. Have you seen that guy who said that he's so minimalist that he eats the same food everyday? (I doubt but imagine the urge of saying that for minimalpoints).
I love healing your space because she doesn't drag her cat into minimalism. Sure she has one pillow to seat but that animal has scratchers, shelfs to jump to, toys. A responsible owner imo.
I love the aesthetic but I try to not use computers in dark places out of fear of damaging my eyes. I would add one or two plants, maybe a bigger window.

It's your room, if pastels make it feel homely to you, then do it.

I do think it's important to choose warm toned colours, not cool colours as they can be a bit cold and harsh.

Of course this depends on the shade you'd use but I've seen light pinks done tastefully, and pink goes well with brown furniture imo. Purple could work too of course but I think that's a bit trickier.

I'm not the one who posted that but it doesn't read as being purposefully immature of ddlg roleplaying. Except for some minor decor details most people wouldn't think much of it, I've seen rooms for adults regularly done up in light blues with white furniture.

The only thing that bothers me is all the cluttered mess.

Not exactly room inspo but I think it fits this thread. I used to live in Budapest and recently I’ve been aching to move back to Europe even though it’s unrealistic for me in my current position. I would do anything to have a bright open apartment like this with herringbone hardwood flooring, big white windows and a wrought-iron balcony. The style is very Parisian but you have the perk of Eastern Europe being much cheaper than Paris. This particular apartment looks out onto a beautiful Baroque cathedral and there are half a dozen bakeries and cafes just a few steps from the front door, plus it’s only a short walk from the Danube. It makes me depressed that you can’t find anything like this in the States.

No. 110731

I posted that image, I don't think it looks inherently childish, if you remove the toys and not arrange the furniture like a psycho I think it would look really elegant. (Actually, I wouldn't mind keeping the horse, it looks cool.) I especially like the tile floor and wall panels and the contrast between the formal look of them and the soft fabrics.
Also bold of you to assume I invite people over lol

I’m sorry if that’s the wrong thread but I literally don’t know where else to ask this.

Does anyone by any chance know where I could get this desk?
It looks like it’s from ikea (the drawers remind me a lot of kullen/malm furniture) but I can find anything like it.
I even considered that it’s made out of two night stands and a table top, but I can’t find any night stands like that either and it doesn’t seem like the drawers have their own top part (although, that probably could be left out when you put them together, now that I think about it).

But anyways. Any help would be appreciated as this is the first room inspo picture that actually fits the logistics of my own apartment/room.

No. 110757

nvm found the base units and they’re almost $400 each lmao

You could actually make it yourself for cheaper if you have space and help, it doesn't seem very complicated, except for the drawers (maybe it would be easier to just make cabinets instead of drawers). Or you could try finding some drawers at a second hand store. Or just find similar cheaper ones at some other store. Good luck I hope you make/find a nice desk.

No. 110759

Right? Especially if it doesn’t look like it. But each to their own.

I think I‘m gonna go with simple Malm dresser/nightstands or just buy a simple desk (like Micke) + cabinets.
I just really suck at furnishing, decorating and have literally 0 sense of what fits and what doesn’t (aesthetic-wise) so it’s easier for me to copy it 1:1. But oh well. I‘ll live.

I like how minimalism is about possessing less objects and clutter, but I don't like the current pinterest trend of "everything must be WHITE and SPARSE and BARREN except your plant collection." I would like a house with less furniture, less objects, but the furniture there is is brightly colored and has pops of pattern.

No. 110762

I get you. I like the idea of having very little stuff (or at least, having it all in neat storage so it looks minimal), but I'm not into impersonal sterile aesthetics. Though rather than bright colours/patterns I want pastels.

Speaking of, isolation has been great for decluttering and konmari-ing and all that. I've gotten rid of so much unnecessary stuff.

No. 110763

maybe I´m not getting minimalism then but this just looks like a neatly organized room to me

No. 110764

I admittedly have ocd but this doesn't look minimilistic to me. I agree about the colors though, it's a nice balance.

You can cover the desk surface with a cute peel and stick wallpaper, or just get a desk mat/pad.

I almost bought one when I was getting new furniture! Having a little alcove for my desk or a couch would be so comfy, plus it would save a ton of room. At the end of the day I'm glad I didn't because I don't wanna have to climb a fucking ladder to get into bed especially when I've been working all day kek but I still look at the pictures and pine for one.

No. 110799

I had one in my student studio but I detested sleeping in it. Climbing up and down was a chore, I was near the ceiling and it never quite felt sturdy even though it was. I replaced it with a normal bed even though I had to sacrifice room for it.

I haven't thought too much on the design but I'd love a big wet room style shower. I like sitting in the shower so having all that space and maybe a built in bench would be awesome. I also like how seamless and spacious they make the bathroom look. I also wall tiling that doesn't look like normal tiles, eg fake wood, fake brick.

Too bad I'll never be able to afford it kek I'm planning a bathroom reno eventually and even with the plainest, cheapest materials it'll still cost me like 10-15k.

No. 110908

I know the feeling, it's something that eventually I want to work up to. Tiles alone are expensive, even if you DIY the whole thing it's still an excessive amount omg. For a shower, my dream would be Dornbracht's Aquamoon. I saw a demo of it one and looked so decadent, thought that was at a commercial show lol.

I'd have to say the same. I feel cold and unshowered just looking at it.

I love this house. I feel like it'd be hard to be unhappy there.

I love that bed. Is it a specific type/style?
