There isn't a j-fashion thread anymore so here's one. Talk about tips, makeup, hair tutorials, coords, jfash in general etc.

Pic related has cute makeup (though it's personally too much for me, I don't wear lenses). I usually prefer the very girly look for clothes (ruffly skirts, blouses, long socks, "kawaii" high heels, blouses, cardigans, lots of pink and white, etc) but it's almost always too over the top for me to wear in real life :(

I'm super self-conscious of what I wear too, anon. I'm working on not caring what other people think, but in the meantime I don't really feel comfortable wearing j-fashion outside.

Which is why I've found a good friend in larme kei! It's kind of "normie" j-fashion, but still cute and memorable. You can kinda make it as OTT or casual as you like. Most of the staple pieces are quite pricey, but I've been having a blast scouring eBay auctions for cute, cheap pieces and then adding ruffles or lace to make them a little more larme.

No. 55378

That makeup in OP pic is so cute! By the way, I have medium-dark brown eyes and I feel like circle lenses always look basically black in my eyes in indoor lighting, and only colorful outdoors. Are there brands or specific lenses that show up better on dark eyes indoors?

I want to wear some cute casual J fashion. Nothing like heavy makeup or OTT but like a casual but slightly cute look. I have a few skirts like this picture.

I'd like to get some circle lenses but in 14 mm size, my eyes are mega tiny and small lenses/natural really make me look better. Back when I was younger I'd wear the huge lenses like OP Pic with crazy makeup, now I'm pretty "natural" overall.

I think so, like you said it's easily found in the west but I meant like the overall vibe of this is simple but more "cute" than regular "super mature" style of clothes. I'd add some accessories to this outfit though IMO, maybe a beret.

I was into the more intense looking J fashions when I was younger, like gyaru and then lolita but now I'm pretty toned down but I like a cute element to my outfits.

I love false lashes but the idea of them freaks me out too much. Plus I have abnormally long lashes to begin with (and with the wrong mascara they turn into fucking batwings on my eyelid) so i'm worried they'd look stupid on me.

As for j-fashion i try to stick to casual outfits but even the few things i do own kinda stick out a little. There's a few items on amazon, really giant t-shirts with cute cat faces on them that i have. my husband says i look cute but sometimes i feel silly wearing them out. Lately i've been wearing one of them as a nightgown because somehow it has a weird red stain on it :( it looks like blood but i think it was because we had a mold problem in our last apartment's laundry room.

I think it'd be less silly if i wasn't fat. I'm working on it but it's slow progress. I have a whole amazon wishlist labeled "Skinny" of a lot of jfash inspired outfits i want to wear when i'm not a blob

Is anyone here into nanchatte? (Schoolgirl fashion)

Some questions for conversation:
Where do you buy your knee socks and cardigans?
Do you prefer seifuku or blazers?
Favorite socks? (Ankle socks, knee highs, thigh highs, tights, etc.)
What makes a co-ord not nanchatte to you?
Do you wear loafers or other shoes (oxford heels, platform shoes, etc.)

I love it so much but I never let myself wear it because I'm 25 and white.
Get socks from school uniform outlets. They will be close to the local high school and sell like five-packs of uniform socks for under ten bucks. I don't recommend getting anything resembling the local school uniforms though. Seems like a good way to get some awful rumour started.

The seifuku is insanely cute, especially with a loose cardigan and plain loafers imo.

As someone who has a real weird love for 50's housewife kind of fashion, just take it from me: There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with only being comfortable wearing a fashion you love inside your own home. If you want to dress up to go nowhere, fucking DO it. Feel great about yourself. Housewives used to HAVE to get dressed up to stay home, so why is it weird to WANT to do that?

I just hate the attention i receive when I dress up unless I'm going somewhere TO dress up for. I feel ridiculous but at home I feel cute and comfortable and most importantly: HAPPY.

Lately I've considered switching up my style pretty drastically. I've become very self conscious about my age and my height with himekaji style. I'm also kind of tall (5'9) and a lot of pieces are one size one pieces. Ordering online is always a gamble.
Sorry for the necro! Didn't want to make a new thread obviously

Though I've always been drawn to most gyaru styles, and I want to try rokku but am kind of scared I'll be mistaken for emo/scene. I'm currently dieting which I think will help. It's also more forgiving with height since its tops and bottoms mostly instead of dresses.

Does anyone have any tips for starting this out? Like where I can maybe buy some brand piece. Or even a guide would be helpful if it exists. I feel like it would be fun without standing out as much with frilly styles. Plus, I could buy from American shops also which will be way easier to find pieces than himekaji.

I always liked Onee gyaru. I'm complete shit at hair/makeup so I couldn't ever get that part, but the fashion gave me great ideas and inspiration for silhouettes that I can translate into the workplace.

If you feel uncomfortable in certain colors you don’t need to wear them. The nice thing with fashion is that the style you opt for is your own creation - if you like Larme but feel comfortable in only certain colors like the ones you mentioned, put together Larme-styled outfits in those colors. If you feel the most comfortable in darker colors, try creating darker Larme outfits. Experiment. Bend the rules. Hell, create your own subcategory. Limiting yourself too much within fashion sucks the fun out of it.

I'll buy from there when they have holiday sales where things are half off. They kind of feel like a Japan-brand Gap, I guess? That's what they remind me of anyways.

I like their HeatTech line, though. I notice a difference in how warm I am when I wear a HeatTech undershirt vs a normal undershirt.

most older gyaru is about being tan, so you're good their. hostesses didn't/don't tan quite as much since they cater to salary men, but pretty much all older styles look great with darker skin!

hello friend!

what style himegyaru the la pafait cutesy style or the more fancy jesus diamante style? i've been buying a lot 2nd hand from fril.jp with fromjapan shopping service. i wear both styles anything pink and fluffy and super bouffant wigs. i used to buy from la pafait via ss but the last time i tried my ss said they couldn't buy it.

stuff on fril is fairly cheap, especially for jd stuff. i buy some other stuff from dreamv and other brands like secret honey. using the tag 姫系(hime-kei) to shop helps a lot. lemme know if you want more info, and if you want i want more hime friends so we can share discord or something?

jd still has their online shop up, but you have to use a ss. fril and other 2nd hand sites sell it as well. i used to use western sales comms, but they tend to be over priced since people always account for their customs fees they initially paid.

i think emiria wiz and datura are more agejo, (which has toned down over the years) or oneegyaru but i am sure a lot of it can be worn in a hime-way, thoug it may look more hostessy. i found while getting into gyaru, i just bought what i wanted, styled my makeup and hair like i liked and it sort of worked.

Use a Japanese proxy service to buy clothes if you aren't doing so already. Don't get ripped off by resellers in your country. Another thing I would suggest when looking for clothes on second hand Japanese sites, is to make generic searches, e.g. "otome" under the women's fashion category, or descriptions of certain specific pieces you are looking for, e.g. "brown lace frill cardigan". You then need to look through the search results (can be time consuming, but worth it), and keep note of any nice brands you find while doing so. Eventually you'll amass a list of brands and terms that you can use for your searches. I'm not into otome kei, but some personal recommendations I'd give outside of Axes Femme that I know of and think may fit what you're looking for, are Pink House and Jane Marple.

I wear otome kei as well! The advice that >>431386 gave is very useful. Definitely avoid expensive resellers on places like depop and learn how to use Mercari.jp and a proxy service. I also translate the search terms I want into Japanese because that can pull better searches. I save links to all the listings I’m interested in in a big document with preview pictures, and then when I know for certain that I want to buy a handful of items, I do it in one go and consolidate the items into one package so I can save on shipping. Also save pictures of clothes/coords you like on Pinterest or look at old otome-kei blogs and see which brands they’re wearing— you can then search for those brands on mercari.jp and browse through listings. The filters on mercari.jp are also helpful, you can go into specific categories like midi skirts or cardigans and search for specific brands or colors you like.

Is it too unrealistic to want a friend group that is into J-fashion but not into woke politics, or at least able to separate it from the subculture? I have a love for J-fashion and want to get back into wearing it occasionally and on the side, but I don't have any friends who are into it nor do I want to expose them to this interest. I am apprehensive about cons because of the weirdos and overall just have zero clue of how to navigate these subcultures anymore. Things have changed a lot since I was a teen, lol. I just don't want to have to placate troons to find a friend group. There are some asian cliques on campus that wear cute clothes, but I've noticed their hard to "join" if you aren't asian yourself lmfao

Maybe it depends on the circles you run into, but I'd like to believe you'd be able to find at least one friend somehow. I don't have any irl j-fashion friends but, funnily enough, my few online friends that love and wear j-fashion are all from lolcow and share similar values and views with me. Do you think you could approach one of the girls on campus and start chatting with her about the topic or is it too intimidating?
