Could be a me thing, but I always wanted and invention that could transform my ideas into images without me doing anything other than think it. Kid me would've loved AI. I tried to learn to draw in middle school up to high school but was stuck at the same level and never improving, the theory behind it all confused me and seeing all my artist friends online at the time improving and putting their visions into pictures made me angry, jealous and depressed. I tore all my drawings and threw them in the trash and swore drawing off because it just made me feel worse about myself. Although tbf I was the kind of kid who was good at everything naturally and never had to work for anything and was also abuses to oblivion and looking for validation+trying to believe I was perfect and there was nothing wrong with me because I was ashamed of the abuse I was going through., so this one thing, i.e. drawing, standing in my way drove me insane and just made me angry instead and never made me feel better. I found other artistic outlets that I'm more naturally inclined to (music) so I didn't feel like I need drawing in my life anymore. I did follow stories about painters and looked at their art and stuff, and installed Google Arts & Culture to save my favorite paintings from all eras and styles so I still enjoyed looking at art, just not making it because it made me feel worse. When AI art became a thing, I coincidentally started to fall in love with my husbando and needed fan art of him but there was none because he was obscure, so I ended up trying AI generated images and was happy with the results and still am. I'm not that addicted to it and I only do it every few days when I do have an idea, and the websites and apps I use went down in quality to force people to subscribe and pay so it became kinda boring and not as interesting, but it's still better than nothing. It can be funny sometimes and can be genuinely interesting or good to me. And it's certainly a better alternative than to pay someone to draw him because 1 I don't have money and 2 it's awkward to ask someone to do that in the first place and be so picky, but with the robot I'm like "work slave, fix this. Knew someone who started learning art seriously because he spent some time generating images and realized he liked coming up with ideas but the generators just kept giving him the same results over and over which he couldn't edit properly and never looked just how he wanted. It wasn't creative enough but it triggered wanting to do creative things.

As an artists i think it eased my mind a lot when i actually tried generating something, a real brief with guidelines and realized it really never gives you what you want if you have something thats even slightly deliberate. Its a total crapshoot, like rolling dice. You also notice how it keeps repeating patterns that sometimes can't break because thats in the stock photos and generic images on its training data.

Best case scenario you spend hours refining prompts, and get three dozen images with individual elements that work and then have to combine them yourself in a new image. At that point, you are already doing photobashing and making an artistic input that needs prior skill , also wasting valuable time. Definitely not the "haha pressed button and took your job"
