How feminine can you dress without looking ridiculous in public as a young adult? So nothing crazy like casually walking around in lolita. I don't know too much about female fashion and alot of girls here focus a lot more on makeup than clothing, usually just putting on a hoodie and jeans.

Depends on which country you're in, and how you look. Cultural variations need to be considered. What is acceptable as cute and feminine in tokyo, isn't normal on okinawa, or paris, or mainland china. In south korea you can show your whole legs, in america you can show your whole arms.

One thing that has a general constant is this…Are you fat? Ugly? Big nosed? If yes to any of the afore, don't do ultra feminine.

What about America, followed by the West in general?

>What about America
Has 50 states, I've never been, but I'm guessing looking cute in texas is different than looking cute in alaska or california. Because of average weight, temperature and even culture it can vary.

>followed by the West in general?

There is no "west in general". What passes as overly dressed in north london, passes for slob in north italy.

Just look at what people around you are wearing. What are the ultra feminine females you see wearing? Furry hats? Pink heels? Short dresses? Emulate them to an extent until you develop your own style.

Explore what makes you feel feminine. I dress what I consider to be ultra feminine – muted colors/earth tones, long skirts and dresses almost exclusively, natural fibers (cotton, leather shoes). Sometimes people call me a "prairie housewife" or a grandma, but my style is undoubtedly feminine and I get lots of compliments.

Choose clothes that fit you well. I have a shape in between rectangle and hourglass and I have a lot of muscle relative to the average woman. I wear loose, breezy clothes which accentuate the curves I have. I also overheat easily, so these natural loose fibers are a plus. I started dieting and can wear clothes that are snug about the middle to accentuate my shrinking waist.

Do a lot of experimenting: look at all sorts of fashions online (I derived mine from mori kei and related styles). Try stuff on at the stores. Hit up every thrift store in town. Shop at cheap Chinese websites. Figure out your aesthetic.

If you pay attention to it, you will notice the huge difference it makes to wear natural vs synthetic. Most people's clothing are synthetic these days.
Lastly, jeans are so average and plain that it's best not to wear them if you can help it.

Pretty feminine, seeing as florals, lace, pastels, etc. are all completely socially acceptable, and young women can wear all kinds of cute dresses and skirts no problem. I'd say just don't make your entire outfit pink haha; other than that, it's hard to dress so feminine that anyone will be taken aback. Super girly items can also be toned down by pairing them with more simple, mature pieces, and pastels can be made into an outfit that isn't overly cutesy by pairing with earth tones, grey or black.
I wear super feminine outfits almost every day I'm in public and other women just seem to really like them.

Well anon, basically I tend to do a bit of research in the blogging department and here in the UK most girls tend do just be casual as they can (or others lazy who live in leggings and hoodies).

Things like oversized boyfriend coats in black, grey, camel and pink. Skinny jeans with cute tan ankle boots, buckled chain flats or black boots with buckles (they are cute to wear with tights!).

Keep your accessories simple rose gold heart earrings, maybe a bit of bling.

Casual dresses like peter pan collars (not the ugly ones with shitty patterns but simple black ones), oversized cardigans, cute shirts (plain is better).

Cute bags with a grown up feel and maybe a pom pom keychain just for cutesyness?

Make up? Keep it simple, maybe some winged liner when you're feeling bold. Bit of blusher and nice nude/pink lipstick.

Keep it cute and simple! You don't need to go overboard buying weeb shit!

There are many different types of feminine styles that aren't automatically lolita. Some might turn heads depending on where you live. If you live somewhere rural, dressing to the nines might stand out.

A list of some generic, subtle, feminine styles off the top of my head, mostly weeby Japanese styles just to give you some inspiration

Otome-Kei: The toned down, twee, cousin of lolita fashion. Lots of sweaters, printed dresses with kitschy designs.

Gyaru: Mostly a dead style, but it focuses on makeup and hairstyle. Clothes are just whatever is trendy. If you steer clear of OTT styles like hime and manba, you'll find lots of inspiration for casual, feminine clothing.

Larme-Kei: Sort of like Otome Kei, but mixed with a vintage Barbie doll. Lots of muted pinks, blacks, whites and reds. Mature, but soft and feminine. Borderline normie clothes but still stands out.

Retro fashion: Generic rockabilly/throwback styles. Wiggle dresses, swing dresses, red lipstick, coiffed hair. This stands out the most out of everything on this list.

Of course there are a ton of more generic styles and american fashion styles that are also feminine. If you wear a simple dress, or skirt, and wear your hair down, you will automatically be perceived as more feminine.

Another quick collage of some feminine styles I have saved on my computer, let me know if this is too weeby or over the top for you.

It depends if you wanna go for a sexier look or a mature look or a cutesy look. I think adding heels to your outfits can be a start! And please do focus on your hair and makeup as much as clothing.

Gyaru isn't technically "dead" but the blonde and tanned style of the mid 2000's is rare to see. It was mostly eaten up by other styles like Larme.

I'm a huge fan of tucked shirt + A-line skirt + classy jewelry. I'm 5' with a short torso/long legs and have a somewhat rectangular shape. A-line skirts work wonders on me, and I feel incredibly confident and feminine in them.

No. 79718

>>79711 Again, not really. It depends what part of Japan you're in. A lot of gyaru in Tokyo are pale but follow the same aesthetic, or a bit toned down. However in other cities especially in the Kansai area a lot of them still get tanned and do some OTT styles, way more than Tokyo actually. I live in Kyoto and I see a ton of gyaru and gyaruo everywhere especially in Osaka. I don't see larme kei or other harajuku fashion in Kansai much, if ever.

I think that comes from the typical osakan character, usually more show-off and extrovert that their kantō counterparts

No. 79741

>>79720 Yes I agree, but I'm glad the style isn't dying out because of them. They even have more gyaru brand stores there and they are also bigger compared to Tokyo.
