I'm late to the Beyonce and Jay Z topic, but all of this Diddy stuff that has been coming out these past few months has been making me think: We all know that artists have to do a lot of unsavory, sexual things to get ahead in the industry. Beyonce met Jay Z when she was 17/18 and he was 29. Jay had his breakthrough a little before Destiny's Child (DCs first hit was when Beyonce was about 16/17). I honestly believe that being with Jay Z probably afforded her some type of protection in the industry, perhaps so she wouldn't have to do all of the same things other artists did. And tbh if I'm right, I can't blame her for sticking by him despite the cheating. Perhaps this is also true for a lot of celebrity relationships.
I think this is also why Nicki Minaj is with her husband. Not for protection in the industry, but Nicki's main enemy (Cardi) is affiliated with bloods and was in the blood gang before becoming famous. Cardi B also had some girls beat up. I think being married to a thug who probably unironically would shoot someone for her makes her feels safer. Random but Taylor Swift has potential to write good lyrics but I feel it’s always ruined with some cringey, clunky, I’m14andthisisdeep type of stuff. I’m sure she has multiple writers, but whoever is responsible for lyrics like the sexy baby one and alike need to be fired asap, even if it is Taylor writing those herself. I like a few of her songs, Carolina and Snow on The Beach, I feel like those are the only ones without very overtly dumb lyrics. I like The Great War but pretty much the only part I like is when she says “It turned into something bigger, somewhere in the haze got a sense I’d been betrayed” that one is kinda juvenile too but she says it in a way that sounds nice, but she immediately ruins it by following up with “soldier down on that icy ground, looked up at me with honour and truth” and says it in this weird hip hop kinda dancey way and it just wrecks the mood. Also all of her songs incorporate some sort pseudo bad girl lyric about punching walls, smoking, drinking, swearing, and it reads like a homeschooled middle school kid trying to sound cool.

And it was around the same time kpop started getting popular, because it was stuck still in the 2000s r&b with acoustic guitar era, then it started copying the electropop craze but did it a bit better, until it stopped doing so starting from 2015. The only 2010s music I like other than kpop from that era, is Pixie Lott, her style is very nice and resembles the 2010s tumblr hipster aesthetic but in a good endearing way, when for some reason musical theatre kind of music got mainstream. But other than that, no 2010s songs appealed to me.

>>1973993>>1972518>>1972416Gaga's impact was so enormous it cannot be understated, it seemed like every single artist immediately adopted her approach and copied everything about her at the time, began wearing wigs, and putting their stage shows and videos etc. into 100% overdrive and higher production. Ironically the impact was so massive that it's sort of becomes less visible as a result as she gets lost in the entire landscape she created at the time. (I'm not saying Gaga was original at all, just that she just absolutely set a new standard for Pop stars).
Gaga's best was when she was robotically marching around with those two female dancers and the dobermans before she actually made it big, it felt super cynical and hypereal performance art, and then ARTPOP had a flavour of that but she seemed to fumble the ball and buy her own bullshit and become a bit unlikeable.
