My friend wants to know why people attack, kidnap, jail or kill missionaries. What did they do that made them so deserving of that treatment? Anyone with personal experience with them can clarify? I know many of you don't live in USA.

I've never heard of missionaries being harmed or killed in any way where I live (Northwestern US).

But, people here don't tend to like them because they are often pushy like a car-salesman when it comes to religion. I live near a Jehovah's Witness temple, and those buttholes are constantly trying to convert the neighborhood. They are snooty, presumptuous and highly secretive. I've even had them knock on my car window once when I was leaving for work. They knock on my door at least twice a week, and are always leaving gospel litter in my yard.

I don't know about other countries, however. I hope wherever OP is from, your missionaries, regardless of whether or not they are annoying are not being attacked in any way.

I've mostly heard about this happening in northern Africa. Is that where you live OP?

I have fantasies about kidnapping and raping a Mormon missionarie in horrible ways, idk if I would do it tho. Archiving such a task would be difficult without being arrested. On that note, it's some dangerous work they're doing.

No, but my friends go help missionaries and sometimes the missionaries from their churches get kidnapped. They went to South America and that happened. Other similar things happened in Africa and other countries. So they think missionaries are nonviolently pushy yet they overreact with violence?

I mean African countries. Africa itself is a continent. South America is a continent lol. Specifically in Peru I think, a missionary we knew got kidnapped.

I'm pretty sure in places like these, that it's radicalism. The same as with ISIS and the Spanish Inquisition. The people (often in power) aren't very open minded and very deep and corrupt in their beliefs.

This question could apply to anyone who gets attacked for their religion, really.

Why do missionaries go to shitty countries?

because nobody there gives a shit about western religious bullshit imperialistic attempts to "save the savages" and "bring civilization" to people that pretty much never asked for it or wanted it, and were living a-okay for generations without it.

naive-ass young missionaries go to these places secure in their faith and NOT in reality. and like any other situation, that's how you get in trouble. especially shitty people can detect that and use it to get what they want.

you go into a culture and basically say it is lesser than yours, and try to make them change. it erases their culture, their history, their way of life and introduces longlasting problems (aka similar to the racial backlash in america right now). and in some instances, the peoples themselves are eradicated. even if the lengths don't go that far nowadays, the connections can't be ignored.
